So basically I am pressed for cash (aren't we all), and can't have the luxury have having 1,000,000 rods for every single scenario...I wish I could though.  So basically I want to combine a rod for jig fishing, and also topwater.  I know this is a weird combo, but basically I have a 7' MH Abu Garcia Vendetta 2, extra fast, and a reel with a 7:1 gear ratio.  The line I'm using is 17 lb. fluorocarbon (I know...bad for topwater).  I live up north, New Hampshire to be exact, so I'm really not fishing any insane slop with either technique.  My primary question is will this rod be okay for what I plan to use it for?

Other than the line choice yes, very well. But honestly switch to braid and use a leader, mono for topwater and flouro for others. You will be much happier.

Deal, that never even crossed my mind.  Thanks for the advice!

Yes I do believe it "Will Work", how well depends on a few things.

Right off the top, which top water baits are you planning on using ?

Poppers, Chuggers & Spooks all have treble hooks, so consider that.

If Frogs are an option, there are some considerations there as well.

If I were using that rig mostly for jigs & topwater (and you're right, that is a little wacky) and since you're not planning on being around super heavy cover, I'd change out your line to 30lb braid.

Then use a mono leader for top water and jigs or even go straight braid.  Adjust your drag accordingly.

btw - I'm not a Fluorocarbon fan anyway.
