MARSH MASTER Posted August 2, 2008 Posted August 2, 2008 The reel came out very well despite the bad photo's. I decided to change the colors from blue/yellow to blue/silver. The only thing I want to change is the handle. I've tried looking for a custom handle but I can't find one for shimano's other than that I think it came out good for my first reel. YES it still works very well. Probably better than before since I had it opened I lubed and greased everything. All the parts went together good but there was some sanding needed for the bearing and the spool. Well take a look and I want ya'll to be cridicts. Give me some thoughts on what ya'll would do. Quote
MARSH MASTER Posted August 2, 2008 Author Posted August 2, 2008 The shiny clear coat didn't show on the pics but it glissens. Quote
Super User islandbass Posted August 2, 2008 Super User Posted August 2, 2008 That looks great. What did you use as the clear coat? I think I'd like to try this with my curado or trion. Quote
bass wrangler569 Posted August 2, 2008 Posted August 2, 2008 Thats awesome. What kind of paint did you use. I want to try this on an old BPS extreme and see how it works out. Quote
Super User Sam Posted August 2, 2008 Super User Posted August 2, 2008 Drop dead beautiful. You did a fantastic job. Congrats! Any mechanical problems with the reel, itself, due to the paint? Next one just has to be purple and gold or Catt and I will haunt you. ;D Quote
MARSH MASTER Posted August 2, 2008 Author Posted August 2, 2008 this was all done with spray paint. I did have to go threw about 5 different brands to find the right paint. The paint can't be thick or it wouldn't work. I used clear laquer becouse the clear spray paint would give it a frost look. Sam I plan on doing a LSU(geaux tigers) reel and to answer your question about the performance of the reel I only had one problem. When I put it back together the bearings wouldn't fit so I took some water paper and sanded the inside the holes. Other than that everything is A O.K. I'm also looking for some sort of decals that I can put on before the clear like a tiger or something. Quote
Super User .RM. Posted August 2, 2008 Super User Posted August 2, 2008 MARSH MASTER, Looks good.. How will the paint and clear coat hold up under direct summer sunlight (longterm)? Have you tested for heat blemish's, peeling, water stain, fish attractant, body acids etc. Let us know when you do... Tight Lines!!!! Quote
daviscw Posted August 2, 2008 Posted August 2, 2008 I doubt an LSU reel would catch you any fish... Quote

I really need some more "projects" to do while my ankle is healing. I converted a "princess" training wheel bicycle to a "superman" for my son. It used to belong to his older sister. Quote
MARSH MASTER Posted August 3, 2008 Author Posted August 3, 2008 I used rustoleum for the blue and the lacquer. The silver was dupli color from napa auto parts. The brand realy didn't matter as much as the thickness. The thinner the better so you can put aalot of thin coats so it don't orange peel and have build up. The clear coat was just the opposite. Reel mechanic I don't know how long it will last but it looks cool for now and if it does get messed up than I will have a new prject and then I just might make It black and gold. I used the reel yesterday on my trip and it caught fish with no problem. Quote
judgefamily Posted August 3, 2008 Posted August 3, 2008 OK, you want an HONEST opinion? First let's make sure were talking about the same thing here. I'm gonna need your address to send you my reel so you can finish it just like yours....then I can comfortably criticize your job. Seriously, this looks fantastic!! ;D Quote
bayoukritter Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 I really like how it came out. But your going to have to wait til I beat mine up alittle bit before you can paint mine. Oh yeah, how many parts did you have left over after you but it together. 8-) Quote
Aaron Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 Hey Marsh Master check out these handles from BPS. I have a couple on some Ambassadeurs and it looks like they might fit your Curado. I have a CU201BSF on the way and when I get it I can let you know for sure if the handles fit on there. These handles feel prety solid and don't look too bad. Plus it beats paying $80 for one. http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_96598_100004001_100000000_100004000_100-4-1 EDIT: The handle fits on nicely but the drag star will no longer click when adjusted.
