Canam13 Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 Friend and I are going up to Lake Mercer in central NJ Saturday and both of us have never fished it before. Anyone with any experience on the lake, that can lend some info and insight to the lake? I printed a Topo of the lake, so have some ideas, but any help with past experiences would be appreciated.. thanks!!!! Quote
fish devil Posted September 4, 2015 Posted September 4, 2015 I have fished there a few times.  Lake is almost featureless with very little cover.  I have caught bass on the few submerged wood we found.  Don't pass up the floating docks at the ramp.  I've seen a 5lber caught off there. Use wacky or texas rigged Senkos.  Mercer also has stocked muskie.  The lake gets mobbed with scullers from Princeton University, so you might be limited in the areas to fish. 1 Quote
jyu87 Posted September 4, 2015 Author Posted September 4, 2015 As most of you may know - been fishing with Fish Devil in the club. Have been seeing a lot of slow days on the moving baits. I've even been having trouble on the senkos. Fish seem to be out in the open water still to get away from the heat and sun. Devil has been killing it lately - as you can see from his posts. Looking to get out there this weekend to see what the fish are up to. Quote

Are you fishing from a boat? As fish devil stated, the scullers have ruined the fishing there. With all the scull boats, gas powered coach boats, and lane markers, it's not what it used to be. Quote

We might be changing up the spot for tomorrow, as he also read about all the traffic at Mercer. he was thinking about Mirror Lake or Davis mill pond. Thanks for the info guys! Quote

Canam13 Posted September 5, 2015 Posted September 5, 2015 My friends have decided on mirror lake. Any suggestions on where to start for the morning bite? Thanks for info and Davis mill is next on the list, maybe Monday. Have a great holiday weekend everyone! Quote
fish devil Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 Jyu87 and I fished Bargaintown on windy and cloudy Saturday morning. Buzzbaits were the ticket first thing. I nailed some solid bass. 2-2.5 lbs Jason battled pickerel. The Senko bite was non-existant in the stump filled open water. We went back to the pad/grassy shallow areas where Jason ended up catching the best of the day at 3.46lbs. It was a long and skinny fish. Back to the open water. Texas rigged Senkos finally started producing. Jason also had some spinnerbait fish. We finished the morning with about 10 keeper bass and a few shorts plus a half dozen toothy critters. 1 Quote
Canam13 Posted September 9, 2015 Posted September 9, 2015 Go to Davis MIll.  It's coming back strong after a few years of  suffering with LMB virus  Don't bother with mirror!!! We ended up going to Mirror with another pair of friends in another boat. Nice day on the water, our boat ended up with 8 fish in the boat(7LM/1 pickerel)most caught on 7" trick worms on laydowns. Nothing on the morning topwater Frog bite . All fish, except one were keepers, so all in all a good day at a new lake. Looks like Devil and 87 had a nice day also, nice work Davis mill and Bargaintown are on my list for the spring, wither out of my buds new 19tx tracker or my pelican 10e..... I think we are going to give Manasquan resv. a try this Monday. Have a good week all! Quote

Tons of bass under the cover, but shore line access is crap so not many people fish there. I live 5 minutes away lol. Quote

jyu87 Posted September 28, 2015 Author Posted September 28, 2015 I don't know why but I am having a hard time believing this is a LMB. It was caught in a small pond with a depth of around 4-6 feet. I've never seen a pattern like this on a greenie. Anyone have any insight. Some type of hybrid? Has a small mouth color pattern. Quote
NJSalt Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 Looks like a smallie to me? am I missing something? Quote
jyu87 Posted September 28, 2015 Author Posted September 28, 2015 I just cannot believe there would be one in this little pond. Features aren't as distinct as for example the fish you're holding in your profile picture. Quote
Catch 22 Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 That is definitely a small mouth bass. 1 Quote

Features aren't as distinct as for example the fish you're holding in your profile picture. It's a smallie J. Â Remember I was telling you they were showing up everywhere in SJ waters. Â People were taking them out of Lake Audrey by the hundreds and dumping the fish in every body of water. Quote
jyu87 Posted October 2, 2015 Author Posted October 2, 2015 Yeah - I found out the other day it was being stocked and poured into their. A shame because I did get kicked out by some grump. Had to get the itch out. FD - it's going to be a dicey classic. Lol. Quote

NJSalt Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 Got a good one yesterday on the 6" Magdraft. Love the feeling of a big angry fish knocking a foot or two of slack in the line. Â Quote
fish devil Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 Nice job, NJ Salt. Â I hit Mary Elmer instead of Rainbow yesterday. Â Caught seven largies. Â A few on wacky rig Senkos and the rest on a SK Redeye lipless crank. Â All fish were 2lbs +. Â Lost a 3.5-4lber at the boat. Quote
fish devil Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 5.17lb largie from Parvin State Park this morning.  1/2oz  Booyah jig w/ Zoom chunk.  Quote
