Tommy X Posted June 5, 2015 Posted June 5, 2015 I'll be heading out to Wells Mills again as long as I can build a decent dolly for my Bass Raider. I'm a big dude so I much rather use that boat alone. The one I built last week busted right as I got to the water. I fished, then dealt with getting it back in my truck. I lucked out because a nice guy and his daughter offered to help. Helpful hint: Threaded rod from Home Depot make lousy axles. I'm going with some 5/8 stainless rod this try. we're looking at 72 and sunny for tomorrow. Quote
NJSalt Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 Hit a new body of water yesterday and did ok. A lot of 2-2.5lb bass with most coming on a chatterbait. Got this guy on a flat with clearer water on my last cast of the day. 1/4oz Strike King Swim jig with a Menace trailer. Fish went 4.5lb believe it or not... I thought it weighed less. Quote
jyu87 Posted June 8, 2015 Author Posted June 8, 2015 Glad we had some catching out there. FD and I went out onto Rainbow. It was one of those days where the fish just didn't want to go after anything. Ended the day catching two pickerals. Nice day though! Quote
Tommy X Posted June 14, 2015 Posted June 14, 2015 Fished Wells Mills this morning. 6 bass, best one was a 2lb. Green pumpkin with purple and black flake 5" Senko. Weeds are really choking the place out. Best for canoes and kayaks at this stage. I think that's going to be my last trip out there. At one point in the wind I would travel 20 yards before I had to clean the prop then lose 15 yards while cleaning it off. It was a real hassle getting back in. Good fishing though. Quote
fish devil Posted June 17, 2015 Posted June 17, 2015 Heading out to Assunpink on Friday with jyu87(Jason). Back out Saturday again for a club tourney(SJ Hawg Hunters). Quote
Tommy X Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 What time is the weigh in? I plan on fishing Stone Tavern Saturday. Quote
fish devil Posted June 21, 2015 Posted June 21, 2015 How did you do at ST? The Pink was tough, especially with the 15"minimum size. Quote
Tommy X Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 15 mins into my ride out there the rain was coming down pretty good, so I went back home. In retrospect I should have stuck it out. This Saturday is looking iffy for rain, but cool temps Quote
fish devil Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 Fished Bargaintown in Atlantic County this morning. Jason got on the bass early, catching them on buzzbaits. I had a few misses but did manage a couple of pickerel on plastics. Then there was a long dry spell. The wind eventually picked up and the bass started biting again. The wacky rig caught all my fish. We had about 8 keepers and a few shorts. Best at 2.5lbs I did lose one BIG bass next to the boat that would have been in my top 3 biggest of all time.. 1 Quote
Tommy X Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 HELP! In this post spawn period, I have just stopped catching fish. In my last 3 outings. 2 at Stone Tavern, 1 at Assunpink my grand total was 1 dink. I have tried crankbaits parallel to the shore at different distances, from shallow to deep. KVD's and 6th sense bluegill patterns. Senkos close to structures (gr pump, black with blue fleck and other colors) that jet out to deeper water. Big Texas rigged worms (zoom ol monster black and black and blue) in deep water. I do not yet have a fish finder. Other guys out there are catching. So what am I doing wrong? And what should I try next? Conditions have been little to no wind, partly sunny to full sun. mid 70's to mid 80's air temps. The water is green and cloudy out on those mentioned lakes Quote
NJSalt Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 Tommy, Try fishing a keitech 3.8 Fat or something similar on a jig head if the water clarity is "ok" or better. Quote
jyu87 Posted July 7, 2015 Author Posted July 7, 2015 Tommy, from what time are you fishing? I've been seeing the most of the activity in the AM. Haven't really fishing in the late PM but we are in the summer time and bass tend to be pretty lazy during the day. Not saying that they won't bite but you've got to really drop it on their face at times. Quote

Take your time. During the day A wacky rigged Senko will catch them. DOWNSIZE. I use the 4" version. A 3" Senko will get more bites. A shakey head will also produce. You need to find productive areas and fish them slowly and thoroughly. If you fish early, try ripping a buzzbait in shallow areas. The cloudy water is normal for the Pink. ST is usually a little clearer. Quote
Tommy X Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 Thanks for the replies guys. NJSalt what colors do you like on the keitech? weightless? jyu87, I work nights so its tough to get an early start but I can pull it off somewhat. The trip I caught the small one on I got in the water around 9 and caught him like 3 hours later. Then I tried late afternoon in the water by 4pm fished til dusk, got skunked This passed Monday I got in the water at Assunpink pretty early for me around 7:45 am, skunked fish devil, I like that downsize tip, I have the weedless hooks size 3/0 and O rings but I haven't tried wacky style yet. Should I stick with the color that has been working for me? (gr pump) or would like a straight up black be best for those lakes? Quote
fish devil Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 Had a club tourney(SJ Hawg Hunters) on the Salem Canal last Saturday. 9 Teams competed for 6 1/2 hours. We probably had over a dozen short fish(12" minimum). My partner caught most of them on wacky rigged Senkos. I ended up catching all five keepers on a DT-4 crankbait. We finished in 1st. My best of the morning was a 3.48lb fish. Top 3: 1. F.Lentz/Nemeth Team (Fred Lentz & Joe Nemeth)Total Bass/Weight = 5 / 9.16 lbs Points = 182. Duckardt/O.Summers Team (Bill Duckardt & Orie Summers)Total Bass/Weight = 5 / 9.03 lbs Points = 143. J.Miller/White Team (Jim Miller & Andrew White)Total Bass/Weight = 4 / 8.07 lbs Points = 15 12 miles of wood and spatterdock..... Winning Lunker Weight – 4.00 lbs (Andrew White) Quote
AdamsEye Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 Got this little guy tonight, had a chance to get out in the kayak. Hit Lake Manetta, and fished it from 7-9. I fished down the lake with a frog and t rig with no luck, fished back with a weightless swimming fluke and swim jig and did ok. I caught 3 pickerel and that little 1lber on the fluke, and I lost a better fish at the kayak ripping the swim jig. So I learned on my 4th kayak trip to calm down, leave more line out, and keep it away from the paddle when landing a fish lol. Swim jigging is new to me, only fished it twice but I like it a lot already. I was tossing that thing through everything and might have cleaned it 3 times. Most of the time's the lakes around here are pretty weedy, and I would not think to throw a swim jig. I think I just might be addicted to it already. 1/4oz with a chunk seems to work well but I have not tried an 1/8oz yet or a swimbait trailer. Now I just need to get better fishing out of this kayak, but I got the hook set down now. I have only fished stone tavern twice, and I don't have electronics. Watermelon seed works for me, but I do seem to catch a lot of shorts there. I was throwing a 4" watermelon seed centipede last week, and did ok. The other guys fishing that area reported no bites, I did see one guy catch a pan fish on a inline spinner. He said he was bored lol! I caught a lot of fish, but only one or two of any size. Both times I have been there, most guys were throwing senkos. That's what prompted me to throw the centipede last week. I was in the fish, but didn't get any size either but I was only out there for two hours or so. Next time I think since it's summer I am going to go with a larger plastic, maybe a swim jig for a bigger presentation. See if I can't weed out some of the smaller fish. But I will probably throw the centipede again too. Quote
PAGreg Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 Can any of you give me some feedback on Bauer's fishing preserve down near Cape May county? I'm taking the family to Wildwood in a couple of weeks and thought I'd take my 2.5 year old to Bauer's to catch some panfish. Thought maybe I'd take some of my gear and see if I could get into some stripers. Is it worth making a trip to? Quote

NJSalt Posted July 21, 2015 Posted July 21, 2015 Thanks for the replies guys. NJSalt what colors do you like on the keitech? weightless? Not weightless. I fish them on 1/4, 3/8, and 1/2 oz jig heads depending. I actually use Strike king Shaky heads as they have a thinner wire hook and im fishing them in open water a lot of times.... really improves the hookup ratio for me when I only have to lightly sweep the rod to bury the hook.... As for colors, I fish Ayu, Smallmouth Magic, and Prostaff Special mostly. 2 Quote

Canam13 Posted August 28, 2015 Posted August 28, 2015 Just joined the forums a week or two ago and it's nice to see an active thread with fellow SJ Bass chasers. Hope I can contribute the little bit I know about the sport and learn a little also. With the last 3 nights being so cool and in the low 60's, I have to get out this Saturday morning to see if the bite has picked up. I'll give you folks a report afterwards. Quote
Tommy X Posted August 30, 2015 Posted August 30, 2015 Dinks Dinks and more Dinks, I hit Rising Sun Lake this morning. Got in the water by 6 out by 11:30 had about 8 bass, nothing over 10" all on Texas rigged baby bass swim senkos. Quote
fish devil Posted August 31, 2015 Posted August 31, 2015 10 Teams participated at East Creek Pond for 6 hours. Plenty of small fish for everyone. T-rigged plastics caught the fish. Got out Saturday morning on a small lake in Alloway and only caught 2 on t-rigged pumpkin colored yum/dingers. Was a beautiful morning, that surprisingly didn't produce any topwater action. Thought for sure that a lot of the bass in the lake would move up into the pads and laydowns to feed (cool nights), but it was a slow bite, with smaller bass hitting what I was throwing. Can't wait till the weather turns and the fall temps take over. Quote
