Daiwa Alphas Sv

Heard a little talk about these reels, and them having the SV shallow spools. Then i Looked them up, and was shocked to see you can get them for around $200 shipped. So my question is, how do they perform? They definitely have my interest. I have a Daiwa PX-R, and I know that is obviously the better reel, but how do they compare? Thanks

They're definitely as smooth as the Type R,but I just got it yesterday, so I can't comment on the casting abilities. Sweet reel though.

Will the SV spool drop into the other Alphas variants? Specifically the Ai. If someone is swapping out that could be a nice easy upgrade for me.

I assume it would.  I have both reels, when I get a chance I will see if they swap, it probably won't be until tomorrow though.

I got mine a few days ago, but haven't used it yet. I'll check if the spool fits in older Alphas models. My gut feeling is that it will.

My first impression is that it will be a great little reel.

Haven't done much testing but it casts a 1/4oz bait the exact same distance as a few of my other 'higher' end Daiwas.

The SV spool is supposed to have a wide casting range and a stronger braking profile so you could theoretically go "thumbless" even on touchdown of the lure. Casting distance reports are mixed, some say father, some say shorter. Im waiting on a proper review from TT on this spool before I take the plunge and get an SS SV.

Booty - Proper review or factual opinion? Are you looking for comparisons? To what? Distance is not much concern to me as circumstances where I need it are seldom. I can cast an SV equipped reel as far as my 51s. The bait size and weight versatility is more important to me. Then again I only run 6 casting rigs, where a lot of people have twice that. I would rate my casting abilities a little above fair, making these reels ideal for myself. To the Op, what type of comparisons are you after? I just received my Alphas SV yesterday, but plan on getting a few casts in very soon.

I suppose a proper review on what daiwa claims it does vs what it actually does. There not many reviews but what I've read show some different views. I fish from the bank so I like reels that cast far.

I had a chance to use mine today, and I really like the SV spool! I was casting a 5" senko unweighted t-rigged on a Mustad 4/0 EWG hook. The reel is mounted on a 6'8" Crucial MH/F. Line is 10# Silver Thread fluorocarbon.

It was really windy today and had no issues casting, even into the wind. I had my brakes set on 5 for all but the last few casts when I took them down to 0. It was pretty easy to control @ 5 with little to no need to use my thumb. At 0 I had a slight overrun, but I also think that the wind helped out, too.

I'm really happy with this reel, and for the price they can be ordered for right now I will be considering at least 1 more of these. I'm even more excited to see any possible variations Daiwa releases per their typical doing.
