Looking good.  What did you cut her out with?

If it's that dremel cutter you keep talking about, I'm going to have to do a little shopping.

thanks.

i cut out the rough (very rough) outline with a coping saw, but i cut it very crooked, so i did A LOT of shaping with the dremel. i also cut the joints and mouth with the dremel.

Dave,

That looks like a work of art.

Really coming along, nicely.

Can't wait until it is finished to see how it turns out.

Good job.  ;)

heres the lure with weights and hardware installed and epoxied together.

next step is to test it out (i need hooks before i can do this) and then paint it.

i think im going to make this one a shad color, not baby bass.

yeah, here's an update. i got the foil on yesterday and im gonna paint it today and epoxy later.

i think this is the messiest foil job i have ever done :-[ i am not pleased.

there are a lot of tiny wrinkles around the edges due to the contours of the lure. it doesnt look bad from a distance and i KNOW the fish wont mind, but its just the little things that bug me when i am inspecting the lure, you know?

It looks really good though.  Very realistic, kind of like an Alewife/Bunker.  I like it.

yes the picture i took it from was a picture of an alewife.

here is the bait with the back and belly painted to match the picture to the best of my abilities. once again, it looks sloppy close up, but looks good as a whole (IMO). it will look much better when the epoxy goes on, it will be reflective and it will bring out the colors more.

I have to say...I am really impressed. This looks like alot of fun to do. If you don't mind I have a few questions, such as where do you get the foil you put on it, what type of wood do you use, but I think my biggest question is...what type of fish are you going for with this type of lure?

If I ask to many newbie questions....just slap me.  ;D But I am really interested, I would like to take a whirl at one of these myself.

dont worry about it man! glad to help ;)

i dont remember specifically where i got the foil, but check your local hardware store for a roll of foil tape. chances are i got it at true value or lowes.

i got the wood at walmart. they call it a 5x7" value plaque. im not sure what kind of wood it is, but it is 97 cents per piece of this wood that is 5"x7"x3/8". what i do is i will cut the piece in half and glue two halves together to have a thicker body. see my thread "a swimbait in the making" for more detail on my building process.

i am going after bass with this bait!!!!!

The lure looks kickass, but it doesnt swim for beans :'(

i tried removing the floating tail and it helped a little, but not much.

i am going to put a lip on it and then see how it swims.

Both of you go stand in the corner for a time out.  Better yet go to the workshop and make ME some of those swimbaits.
