First the reel, I got a pflueger President 6925 thinking of using it for weightless wacky rigs and shakey head. Now that I see the real I think it is probably too small. What size reel do you guys use for that kind of set up?

For the rod I got a Duckett Ghost medium parabolic to use for crank baits and basically most of my moving baits but it is way too paraboic for spinnerbaits and jerk baits. Wondering now what strength and power I should look at?

Also I am kind of on the about the Duckett vs the Bucoo or Mojo Bass or Veritas 2.0 or Compre.

Oh and I did this at bps on their six pay deal so I guess I need to stay with them since I did a pretty large order this is part of.

That reel will be fine with 10 lb braid on it. It is on the small side but it will work.

Parabolic is fine for spinnerbaits.

The 6925 is better suited for crappie/bluegill. Its a small reel. The 6930 is what you want. I think its 8lb/130yd or something close to that. Much better suited for what you listed. As far as rods go, I'd recomenned an *** rod. A 7'1 m or 7'3 M. I have the 7'3 m and use it mainly for plastics and jerk baits. I use it for small cranks, Lipless, and spinner baits as well. Sensitive, balanced, and strong backbone.

By the way rod is a casting rod and I got a Shimanno Currodo I for it.

The only rods I like at Bass Pro shops are the BPS rods.  Whatever fits your budget.  I have some Extreme series rods that are pushing 15 years.

Only you can decide what works for you.

Listening to others got you into this. Take some time and go touch and feel rods and reels and deterime what feels good to you.

True, there's no right or wrong, just preferences. The reel is a tad on the small side but will work fine. I suggest putting it on the rod you use and see how it feels and go from there. I prefer to fish spinnerbaits on a jig rod MH/F. It will drive the heavy hook home better. I also like a fast action rod for jerkbaits. I find it easier to control the bait especially when giving short subtle twitches. I worry about keeping them hooked up after I get the bit. Just a little more to think about.

Go with your first impression, if you feel it's to small,(reel) then it's to small. It will work for wacky rigs, but if your already uncertain.. Get a bigger size..

I totally agree.

I do think a size 25 is adequate but for all around use I'd prefer a 30 size.

Based on everything I read I'm doing it all wrong.  I pay little attention to using this kind of a rod with that kind of a lure. I don't put a whole lot of stock in super sensitive rods. I don't use b/c or 50# braided line, don't ever fish with more than 3 or 4 lures.

All that said, I whack out some pretty nice fish.

I do not recommend specific rod and reel brands, more than willing to say what I use but don't take that as endorsement just because I like it.

After playing around with the rod a little bit in my lure testing area (pool) I think the rod is really only good for the one thing it was designed for; lipless, shallow, and medium depth crankbaits.  Since I am going to do most of my fishing from the bank and it seems like wrangling around 3 rods is about the max for me to still have fun instead of it feeling like work a rod this specialized wont work for me.  I am going to head into BPS and see what I can figure out.  I am leaning towards the Duckett although I am going to look really hard at the mojo bass rods as well.  I like the micro guides this rod has and I dont think the Mojo's or Bucoo's have that.

As far as the real goes I am going to switch up to the 30 series.

That's a good start. Stick with the duckett instead of the mojo, it's not bad but just not worth it in its price range, there's many better options in that range and you will want more sensitivity for your techniques you're using.

There's other brands in that price range, maybe others will suggest options

That will give me two quality casting rods with good reals and a solid multi use spinning set up.  Now on to tackle.....

Considering as of 3 months ago I had nothing besides 6 big boxes of 30+ year old stuff you could say the bait monkey the rod monkey the reel monkey and the boat monkey have all been kicking my butt. So far I have the boat monkey held off but let one of my clients trade for a bass boat in a car deal that I can steal I mean trade some work for and all bets are off.
