GodfatherOfSeoul Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 Bought this on ebay and everything works great but the down scan. I see nothing even close to the demo mode on several lakes. Maybe so grass here and there but usually nothing. Am i positioning the transducer incorrectly? Ive played with the unit and the htz and also went back to the factory default settings and can't figure out the issue. One person said it doesn't work that will in shallow lakes but my lake is only 30ft at the most. Another person said angle my transducer diff but it looks the same. Help! Quote

The imaging technology has to be installed correctly to produce the best images. That takes the face of the transducer parallel with the water's surface. Once you do the correct install. you have to know how it works. The technology has to scan (takes movement) for the sonar pulse to pass over subjects so they can be recorded. If you are on a featureless body of water, the unit certainly cannot make up stuff that is not there. You have to pass over stuff to see stuff displayed. Quote
GodfatherOfSeoul Posted March 19, 2015 Author Posted March 19, 2015 I know there are stump fields, brush piles and fallen trees all over the lake. I see it on my depth finder, just not on the down scan. What do yoy mean install correctly? Ive put the transducer on a coupke different ways and even mounted it twodifferent ways. All is see is black with little grass herw and there all over every lake i go to and i know that's not correct. Quote
P51 Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 I just got same unit brand new...It came from factory with only the standard sonar transducer...I had to buy the downscan transducer seperately. Can get u part # if u need. Quote

If you do, just follow the installation instructions. "It ain't that complicated" Quote
GodfatherOfSeoul Posted March 19, 2015 Author Posted March 19, 2015 Perfect, i think thats going to be the issue. I have the factory one and will order the one for down scan Quote
Dogmatic Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 I believe that's the problem, regular transducer is "boat" shaped, DSI transducer is long "bullet" shaped cylinder.(?) Quote
GodfatherOfSeoul Posted March 20, 2015 Author Posted March 20, 2015 100% correct. Thanks guys. The Part # is 000-10260-001 Quote
thomas15 Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 Question: I notice that some Lowrance units come with dual 83/200 455/800 KHz HDI transducers. I think the "HDI" stands for "Hybrid Dual Imaging". OK, but do these transducers perform down imaging or will the user need the optional 83/200 KHz transducer mentioned above to solve the OPs problem? Thanks. Quote

Its my understanding that the dual transducer will display the down imaging. According to the box, mine came with the HDI Skimmer Transducer 50/200 & 455/800 kHz. Part number 000-10977-001. I haven't had it on the water yet but here soon I'll know for sure. Mine is the Elite-4 HDI, not the Elite-4x HDI, not sure if that makes a difference. Quote

For freshwater, most prefer the 83/200 kHz & 455/800 kHz setup. 50 kHz is for very deep water. Quote

I have the same unit:The Elite-4 HDI but haven't mustered up the courage to install it (got it last summer). Having read through the manual and read everything I can on the matter, my understanding is thus relative to the OP: Here we go... to get the best result in fresh water the OP should have Lowrance P/N 000-10976-001 HDI Transducer 83/200 & 455/800 This transducer will give both conventional sonar and down scan. The unit can overlay both images for the "Hybride Double Imaging". I'm I correct on this? Quote
Robeng Posted March 21, 2015 Posted March 21, 2015 Having the Elite 5 hdi combo with transducer 83/200 & 45/800 combination for down imaging and sonar. Works great. overlay, etc. I keep sensitivity up usually and am in shallow mode as most lakes here dont go beyond 30 feet deep that I fish. Quote
heathcameron Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 where is the best place to buy a trolling motor mounted transducer for the Elite 4x hdi? Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted June 19, 2015 Super User Posted June 19, 2015 where is the best place to buy a trolling motor mounted transducer for the Elite 4x hdi? You already have it, just need the Lowrance adapter: http://lr.factoryoutletstore.com/details/58001/lowrance-000-10978-001.html?category_id=20501 I would suggest a better one though made by Transducer Shield and Saver: http://www.transducershieldandsaver.com/home/transducers?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.tpl&product_id=58&category_id=5 Quote
