I'm looking for a super light rod any suggestions?

I'd guess g Loomis nrx, but if you went custom with a Phoenix k2 blank with micro recoil guides, split grip eva, and a Toray mvt reel seat from alps, you'd probably have the lightest set up out there.

What length and power are you looking for and how much money do you want to spend? There are a lot of really light rods but length comes into play as a short, light power rods are going to be the lightest while long, heavy and XXH rods will weigh the most. If you are looking sub $200, it is hard to beat the Fenwick Aetos, my 7' M-F spinning is less than 4 ounces, and the Quantum Smoke rods, I'm not sure about the new version but the older one is very light, with my Smoke 100 reel on a 7'MH-F Smoke rod, the both together on my scale weigh in at 9.9oz and on a friend's scale it weighs in a 10.2oz so that is very light.  That isn't close to the lightest though, if you can find a Shimano Cumulous, some of these were like 2.8oz and with a 5.8oz reel on them makes the entire weigh 8oz even, that is just sick. Now, the Cumulous is going to cost a good bit more and there are other light rods but you'll pay salty for them, it just depends on what you want.

Not sure of other specs out there but it would depend upon what rod type, action, etc. you are looking for.

I can tell you that the lightest rods I personally own and use religiously are my Bull Bay Rods Tactical Series AR-15 spinning rods.  They have a composite 7'2" blank MED/XF, American Tackle Company Microwave guides, and such all resulting in a blank that weighs 2.9 oz.  Lifetime warranty to boot.  Drop me a line and I'll put you in contact with the owners.

I've been looking at the Okuma Helios.  Not as light as the Cumulus tho.  My Smoke is pretty light as is my 6' 10" MF Smallmouth.  Never weigh rods so just my perception.

I have those components on hand, waiting for time to do the build. Planning a totally bling-less , minimum build, just to see how light i can get it. I could shave off a bit by going with a Minima or SK split seat, but I detest both of those seats. I want it as light as I can get it, but it has to be comfortable to use. The Fuji SK split seat is the MOST uncomfortable seat I've ever had in my hands, with the Pac Bay Minima a close second.

"lightest" is a relative term. What power & length and/or application are we talking about. A sub 3oz rod a strictly finesse deal for example, but a <4oz jig rod would be real light comparatively.

I agree. I don't like split seats either and trimming weight at the location of the seat will have the least affect. Compared to an exposed blank seat with the barrel trimmed, a split seat doesn't save that much anyway. A 1.5-2 oz blank, micros (especially Recoils or Minnima4), short wraps, split grips is going to be as light as you can get. I'd opt for a Titanium Torzite or Sic top over a Recoil though.

Take a look at the new Major Craft Nanoace. They are popular in Europe and Asia and just started making their way out here. I have been fishing one of them for a couple months now and so far so good. It is super light and they retail for about $120. TWH is gonna start carrying them soon from what I hear.

Out of all my rods, Avids, Champ Extremes, GLX, LTB, DHC5, DHC7, ID DSG the lightest are the Pinnacle DHC7. The Champ Extreme are a very close second.

Quantum EXO PT start at 2.7oz for the 6'8" version. The 7' MH is only 3.4oz.  When you get into 7'6" H flippin then nothing is under 4oz.

Going custom is the only way you can get the lightest rod. Its because you can pick anything you want and shave off anywhere you see fit. We have models for any build!

Go custom. What specs you looking for. Daiwa flex light or xbd.

Agreed with Custom!

Can't help but jump in to agree.

I have built but only 5 rods in my life.  The first 2 were for learning and the last 3 were weighting 2.2 oz, 2.5 oz and 2.7 oz for light, Medium and Medium Heavy cranking needs.  All are 6 footers (I am short) and all from Mudhole, One is a CRB el cheapo blank and the other 2 are MHX shooters CS721 and CS722.  All using Fuji SK2 grips and Alconite Concept guides.  All less than or around $100 a piece.  I'd say if "performance" (as Gary Loomis loved to say) is what you are looking for, go light by building your own.

Shimano Cumulus and loomis nrx are probably the lightest I've used.

Hey Mike, I got the 6'8" ML-F. 1.23 ounces. Building this for a Daiwa SS SV, a 5.3 ounce reel. Hoping to get a sub 8oz combo. Oh yeah, this is a finesse combo.

That'll be sweet. I keep telling myself I should keep better weight stats n such on my builds but get up against deadlines and just get them out the door best I can. Shouldn't complain about being busy. Lol

Well there is the Quantum EXO Tour different from the EXO PT line. The EXO Tour has a 7'6" H /XF at 3.7ounces rated 7/16- 1 1/2 oz

I ve held this rod with the Quantum Tour MG reel and it feels very nice in hand

----

Some other lightweights that have length and power

As mentioned Smoke rod the 7' M/F rated at 1/4-3/4 and can handle 3/4oz lipless cranks comes in at 3.4oz lightest Iv seen with this length power action production rods

Okuma Helios 7' MH/F 1/4-1   3.5oz

Helios M/F 7'  1/4-5/8    3.4oz

I'd like to pose a question. Hopefully it's not off topics.

If you took the lowest end blank from a given manufacturer and built it with the lightest guides and handle setup possible and weighted it against the high end blank from the same manufacturer built with stainless guides and full cork handle would you have a better rod if the lower end blank was lighter?

I dont like SS guides so woulnt buy that rod. Biggest reason that keeps me from getting NRX is the recoil guides.

And IMO no lighter doesnt mean better but is one factor in my decision cause that is something I like in a rod when chosing between comparable prices.
