Hey guys, I'm a long time spinner bait angler but thanks to MTB this month, I'll be diving into the world of soft baits. I figure the fight'n bug I'll Carolina rig and the money maker worm I want to try fishing wacky rigged on a drop shot. Having never used soft baits before, is there a formula or rule for selecting hook size? The craw says to use a 4/0 offset but I'm not sure what size drop shot hook I should use for the worm. Any tips will be awesome, thanks guys.

For dropshot I'll generally use size 2 to 1/0 hooks. For wacky I'll use 1/0 to 3/0. Go with some finesse wide gap in 1/0 to start and go from there. I was using VMC spin shot hooks last year, but I'll be ditching them this year since they're a pain to rig. I'd rather tie 1 knot than 2.

Thanks! Yeah, through my research so far, I've decided to go with the non-swivel hooks at least. Looks like a pallomar knot with enough tag line is a better choice than a hook with 2 or 3 swivels attached. Less junk on the line, the better.

The spinshot hooks and the like are actually pretty legit. Next to no line twist is a great thing.

I'm exactly like lunkerfisher, usually 2 to 1/0 for nose hooking most baits and 1/0 to 3/0 for wacky rigging, and the spinshots are very good, its all I've been using for dropshotting and they work great!

Gamakatsu's swivel shot hooks look pretty interesting, with the clip on he bottom instead of the round swivel eye. Those may be worth looking at.

Hands down the best drop shot hooks I've used. Easiest to set up and they are very hard to lose. Only lost 2 all season as opposed to dozens of other ones that do not have the swivel shot...

A Gamakatsu Split Shot/Drop Shot hook in size #2 has been my mainstay for many, many years. Never fails.

I wacky rig money makers all the time on a drop shot. The #1 VMC spinshot is my go to hook for this.
