EdRitchie Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 I have a Lowrance elite 3 on my kayak that I did get out for the first time this past weekend. My question is what does frequency do, it can be switched between 83 and 200 . Sensitivity , better on auto or manually set it. Read a good setting is between 60-75 Any info would be greatly appreciated Ed Quote

Super User Angry John Posted March 17, 2015 Super User Posted March 17, 2015 I use 12khz to 6000fms. I would think you should be good to at least 300 feet depending on your unit. Quote
Super User slonezp Posted March 17, 2015 Super User Posted March 17, 2015 The cone diameter on the 83khz is equal to 1/3 the depth of water and the cone diameter on the 200khz is equal to the depth of the water. So, if your in 15fow, at the bottom of the beam, the 83khz will display a 5ft diameter of information or 2 1/2ft out from the transducer at any direction. In 15fow at the bottom of the cone, the 200khz will display a 15ft diameter of information or 7 1/2ft out from the transducer at any direction. Quote

You have that backwards. 83 kHz is 60 degrees at -10db 200 kHz is 20 degrees at -10db 1 Quote
