New Batch Finished

Here are a few I've finished this week. Kind of a mixed bag here from wakers to a deep diver.

Just started checking out this board and must say your lures are great.  What is your thought process with the eye location on the bottom bait?  Tying streamer flies I would put eyes near the hook bend occasionally with the thinking that that was the best spot to have the fish targeting the fly.  Same thinking here?

I guess he put the eye on the back of that one because it's in a craw patter.  (craws move backwards when they try to escape from predators)

Very nice work Big M.  What type of wire did you use on the joint in that top wake bait?

Another great looking batch of baits. How many baits do paint a week? It always seems like you have a new set.

good lookin baits ya got there.  i was just curious, you sure do post alot of pics of baits you make.  how many do you figure tou make in a year?  ballpark figure?  do you sell them or are they just for you?

The bottom crank in the pic is a craw pattern that's why the eyes are towards the tail (Hookem).  

I have no idea how many baits I make per week or in a year.   I do as many as my 3yr old daughter allows.    I have a job that allows me to sand about 4-5 lures per day.   I'm a rec. fisherman and when it's hot I don't fish.   So I'm at home building and painting baits.  

I get a real kick when someone sends me a e-mail about catching fish on my baits.

Does that natural/silver backed M-Flat towards the left bottom have a longer lip than normal?  

I noticed some of the M-Flats have Lexan lips - - have you been experimenting?

BTW.....that is a BEAUTIFUL natural shad pattern!

Hey Big M, do you get more action on the single or double jointed wake baits?  I'm really looking into these for an alternative topwater lure, but don't know much about them.  Also, how long are they?

I'm still planning to hit you up for a few lures as soon as I get moved into my new place.  I haven't forgotten about you

I fished the single jointed baits more and I find those have a lot of action.    The single joint makes a real loud clacking sound during the swimming action.    The double jointed baits seem to have a lazy action and don't make near as much noise.

I build the single jointed baits from 3.5 to 6 inches long.   I have not built enough of the double jointed baits to decide which sizes I like the best.

ha ha right, overthinking it.  Gotta remember those things have 6 hooks.  Again, very nice.

When it comes down to it, craws don't have much in the way of eyes to begin with.  But by putting the eye on the back of the bait, it creates a different profile and presentation to fish.  I wouldn't call it overthinking at all.  I'd call it a unique application and look that may be worth trying in pressured waters.

I meant I was overthinking it by thinking about getting strikes right where the hooks are located, not that the maker was just for the record.
