The water I frequent has shot up from mid-40s to mid-60s and pushing on towards 70 in a matter of 2-3 weeks.  My pre-spawn planned patterns would shot when I noticed this water temp and the only thing I got bit by was a 3lb bowfin.

Hey fellow North carolinian, good to see another NC basshunter. If you have fished the springtime around here much you know it is getting close to that magical time...and it can happen overnight. There might not be may not be many places or times to get bit during a day, but hang in there and remember you may just be fishing for one bite..but it's time for that once in a lifetime fish.

Good luck!!!

It seems that around here, despite the surface temps being in the high 40's/low 50's, the water temps lower in the water column are still much colder. The bass are still responding as the would normally be this time of year unless you find them in very skinny water. I don't know if bass do the same as other species but it seems most fish lay their eggs about the same time of year each year regardless, as the females can't speed up egg production just because the weather is nice.

Yeah I just got my first depth finder, and I was pretty startled to see water temps at 68 last weekend. I mean, it had snowed a week or two before that! haha that had me all messed up until I learned it was just the surface temperature.

We had a similar situation here in PA last year because we had such a long winter, and then it quickly became summer almost.

I remember going to the lake one weekend at the water was 48, the following weekend it was 52, the next weekend it was 49, the following weekend it was 58, and the next weekend it shot up to 68. So in two weeks we had a 20 degree hike in water temperature.
