local store has lot of shimano rods on sale. i picked up an older cumara casting rod the other day. i figured i may go on and upgrade my spinning rod from my old bps graphite series ive had for a few yrs and get one of these shimanos. they have th older crucial and cumaras. the crucial they have is the 6'6 medium/fast and the 6'8 medium /xtra fast. the only cumara is a 6'8medium heavy/fast. lure rating on the crucial is 6-12lb test , 1/8-3/8 lures. cumara can handle 3/16-5/8. would the medium heavy cumara cast light stuff mostly trick worms, flick shakes, etc well or should i stick with the lighter weighted crucial ?

If you mean weightless, the Cumara may have some trouble.  I'd go with the Curcial M/F.  Personally I don't go above a M/F on a spinning setup though.  Anything that requires a MH rod I'll use a BC.

I have a first generation Cumara 7'2" MH spin rod, it has the same lure specs as the ones you stated above and I have absolutely zero trouble casting weightless trick worms or flick shakes. I'd definitely go with the Cumara over the Crucial.

Agree with War Eagle, I would grab that cumara any day over a crucial. It's such a high performance rod. A trick worm & hook is not tough to cast, a wacky rigged w 1/8 is real easy to throw, Senkos? A piece of cake! Get that rod while you can.

I'd trust the guys above me if they do not have an issue with weightless, plus they have experience with the rod.  I'd follow their advice!

Couldn't agree more. I still fish a 6'8" MH/Fast IM10 Cumara spinning rod as my main bank fishing rod. I throw from 4" weightless Cuttail worms to 3/4oz. SOB Spinnerbaits and it handles them all with grace. Brian.

I have 2 of the original Gen 1 Cumara spinning rods. Unfortunately neither is the model in question. I have the 7'2 ML fast and 7'2 medium xf drop shot rod. They are great rods and fish very well. I am not sure how that model fishes what you want it to so I won't comment there. I believe your rod should be covered under the lifetime warranty even though Shimano has changed their warranty policy. Worst case scenario is that you dont like the rod and have to sell it. The Gen 1 Cumaras still fetch alot of money in good to mint condition.

I got my gen1 cumara for $100 when they got discontinued for the new red models. If i had known how good of a rod it was at the time I would have bought 6 of them.
