Green Trout Posted March 14, 2015 Posted March 14, 2015 I used this line today for the first time despite the bad reviews and I loved it. It's linp for a Flurocarbon and strong. I caught 1 lb bass all day and didn't have them break me off. My question is, what do you guys not like about this line? Quote
BassmanDan Posted March 14, 2015 Posted March 14, 2015 The worst years for Vanish were the first few years IMO...I broke off many a lunker in heavy cover with it. I've heard it is "new and improved" but my experimenting with it is done. There are too many other great line choices out there. Quote
Turtle135 Posted March 14, 2015 Posted March 14, 2015 what pound test did you use? I used to pop the 10 and 12 pound test way too frequently (part of the problem was that I was not aware of the knot strength issues with fluoro and the other part was my mono hook set was just not meant for that line) Quote
Ozark_Basser Posted March 14, 2015 Posted March 14, 2015 I used to use it all the time just because it was cheap and worked fine for what I was using it for. Longevity is an issue. It gets really easy to break off with 14 lb test once you've had it on your reel for like a week, especially in the summer. I've also had two and three pound bass break me off in grass with 14 lb test, which really shouldn't happen as often as it has. Quote
CRANKENSTIEN Posted March 14, 2015 Posted March 14, 2015 Agree. My experience was a few years back with 8 lb on a spinning rod. The summer heat was tough on it and with a quick pull it would easily snap. For a low price stren floro is better Quote
Super User Crestliner2008 Posted March 14, 2015 Super User Posted March 14, 2015 I've been using Vanish for many years in most of the pound test ratings, despite all the negative press it gets. I've mainly used it as leader material though, with braid as my mainlines. I've used 2#, 4#, 6#, 8#, 10# and 17# tests. Have never experienced a problem. I join this material to my braid using the Alberto knot and rarely (I can't remember the last time) that I've broken off. I do change my leaders several times during the season. Never used it for my main line however, as I believe braid functions better as such. Remember, just because a line costs less, doesn't necessarily mean that it is of less quality. Same with rods and reels. And I've had quite a few in my day. You just cannot buy success. 2 Quote
CRANKENSTIEN Posted March 14, 2015 Posted March 14, 2015 agree with crestliner. But until your confident in a lines performance test it before you go out. If success breaks your Line you will get your feelings hurt. Quote
Super User lmbfisherman Posted March 14, 2015 Super User Posted March 14, 2015 I use to use Vanish as a leader, but many times I've broken off fish. So I steer clear of it. I switched to Red Label as leader material and never had a problem of breakage. 1 Quote
Super User S Hovanec Posted March 14, 2015 Super User Posted March 14, 2015 I've been burnt by this crap 3 times since its introduction years ago. Every time they 'improved' it I tried it again, with much disappointment. Its true to the name, your lures and fish do Vanish. Quote
Super User Felix77 Posted March 14, 2015 Super User Posted March 14, 2015 Line snapped on me too many times. Switched to Red Label and never looked back. Quote

If I have a bad batch or formula, that's it. I move on to another company. Most lines are stable today, giving great results. Line is too important, time spent fishing is often limited. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted March 15, 2015 Super User Posted March 15, 2015 I caught 1 lb bass all day and didn't have them break me off. That could probably be said of any brand. More generally, a lot of guys that have tried Vanish think it lives up to its name "vanish". Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted March 15, 2015 Global Moderator Posted March 15, 2015 The first two times I fished with Vanish in a tournament it cost me money fish, never again. Quote
Super User *Hootie Posted March 15, 2015 Super User Posted March 15, 2015 The first fluorocarbon I fished was Vanish. I have since moved on to Seaguar, but I never ever had a problem with Vanish. Hootie Quote
matuka Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 Vanish reminds me of the gen1 Vicious. I stay away from both. Quote
