Super User slonezp Posted March 13, 2015 Super User Posted March 13, 2015 Not a lot of money is a relative statement. Can you be a little more specific? Quote
Robeng Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 Try Lowrance Elite 4 for under $200. Or spend more $$ for higher end units from $299-$600. Thn you get iinto the $1k-$3k. Have fun Quote
junyer357 Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 Also search around for guys who have the money to spend upgrading every few years. May be able to find some used but still perfectly fine higher end gear in your budget. 1 Quote
wnspain Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 As you increase in size, capability - the price increases too. One of the most capable units I've found is the Lowrance Elite 4 HDI, can be had fairly cheap. One package even comes w/Lake Insight Pro if charting appeals to you. Quote
SCJW Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 I have a Lowrance Elite 4 HDI at my console and couldn't be happier. It has sonar, down imaging and chart plotter and since the new Chirp has taken it's place you should be able to find one in the $150 range. Academy and Gander Mtn has the Elite 5 HDI, which has a slightly larger screen, for $299. Quote
jcoholich Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 I agree with everyone above on the lowrance units but if you want to look at another angle. If you have a smartphone or tablet you can purchase a vexilar t box or t pod and download the Navionics app and for around 150 plus the app have a wifi sonar/ GPS with Navionics charts and freshest data Quote
Super User retiredbosn Posted March 24, 2015 Super User Posted March 24, 2015 You can still find the Lowrance 5 hdi on sale for 299. For what you get in the package a Hummingbird helix 5 with si is hard to beat, GPS, SI,DI 2d sonar color all for 499, Quote

Plus the Sonar Charts map layer as well as the Nautical Charts. The Sonarphone App is free for Apple or Android devices. The darker areas are a couple of Live updates I did Saturday: Quote
