What power & action is your rod? The reel's size helps too. Also, what size bass do you usually catch?

Small diameter braid might suit you well, it's strong enough for your crankbaits but is still small enough for the finesse stuff, and you can always throw on a fluoro leader.

Use the 8lb mono. Trilene XL is going to lay on that spool a lot nicer than the stiffer fluorocarbon will.

If you think you're not getting as many bites as you should be, pickup a small spool of 6lb to 8lb fluorocarbon and tie on a leader.

Personally, I only use mono for top water, as it floats real well and has a bit of give to it. If you happen to be quick on setting the hook, the stretch in the line might save you from ripping the bait out of the fish's mouth. For any other application, I use either fluoro or braid. I also tie on a fluoro leader to the braid, as suggested above, for all my finesse rigs. I feel the braid gives you the sensitivity you need, while the fluoro leader is less visible and more abrasion-resistant.

Hope this helps

I just remembered that I have 2 spools for that reel so I can put some 6 I think my dad has lying around on 1 for the creeks and the 10 pound floro on the other for the lake and ponds. right?

10lb floro is going to be a nightmare if it's a 2500 size reel. Go 8 or even 6.

Edit - Just saw its a Trion 35. I'd still go down to 8lb floro.
