Preytorien Posted March 18, 2015 Author Posted March 18, 2015 You probably dinged it somewhere along the way. That's usually what I think when a rod that has performed for months suddenly snapped. If there's a replacement program for that rid I'll persue it, but I don't see this as a warranty issue. Rods are fragile. It's like trying to warranty a dozen eggs after they leave the store, lol. So here's a question, maybe some guys will have some advice. I think it's safe to say the most fragile portion of a rod is probably the space within the last 3 tips. It's obvious tips are almost a guarantee to get wiped out, heck you can buy a re-tip kit at Wal-Mart. So it's pretty easy to assume that the rod is fragile there. That said, what do you guys use to keep rod tips safe? I don't have a truck, I have a car, which requires me to put down the back seat and feed the rod in up through the trunk. That would be a possible danger point. Not to mention loading and un-loading rods off of boats. Are there devices (other than entire rod tubes) that you can stick on the end of a rod, maybe 12" long and plastic that would aid in just protecting the tip during transport? I'm not really talking about the actual handling of the rod, I understand the basics, no highsticking, rated lure weights, etc. I'm talking more about storage and transport that would lend itself to keeping the tip of the rod protected from stuff, dings, and such. Might be worth inventing....maybe something strong enough that doors, trunks, and tailgates would really have to be slammed hard to do any damage to..... Any tips/ideas?

Delaware Valley Tackle Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 I used to think that you payed more for a rod with a replacement program. In fact, you must. But is it noticeably more? I mean is my Avid twice as much as it should be? It certainly is a little bit more, but is it way off other rods in the same price category? Not really. It's not like you're getting only a $100 rod for $175. Is it? It depends on the circumstance I think. My egg analogy was admittedly over the top for effect. A company's sales levels would obviously pay a big role as the more rods the cost is spread amongst the lesser the effect on individual price. It's more of the principle to me. Whether it's $20 or $200, I don't like paying for something I don't need and more so for other's to abuse the system. We've all heard the stories. At the end of the day I won't pay for extended warranties on anything and give warrantee no weight at all in a fishing rod purchase.

But I suppose if it's a "Replacement" program as opposed to a "warranty" they probably don't care how it happened. In my mind I differentiate between the two. Still not a selling point for me personally, but people must like the idea or the manufacturers wouldn't keep doing it.

Uggggh! And of course its the most expensive rod I've ever bought. My St.Croix mojo ML and I haven't had it but 2 and a half months. Been bank fishing for all of thirty minutes and the tip snaps off, well I guess sooner is better than later... Hopefully St.Croix will give me my replacement/refund.

How much does it cost to send a freaking 6 and 1/2 long pole? Shoot you might as well buy a new friggin rod!

It's on the left hand side of the warranty & sevice tab You buy a preprinted label for 15.00 fed ex shipping. It's a special program they offer their customers. Then all you have to do is take your rod in a shipping tube to a fed ex facility for shipping. 2
