I got the quantum energy pt and used it for the first time today. Was having trouble with backlashing. I was messing with external brakes and tightening the knob to the correct lure weight. But never messed with the internal braking. My goal is I want to cast without having to the thumb the spool like some of my other baitcasters. Question is do I need to mess with the internal brakes to maybe achieve this? Anyone that has experienced with this brand would be greatly to explain this to me as its my first Quantum. Thanks for any help.

I own this reel and several of the Tour Edition models as well. The ACS braking takes some time to get used to and some fiddling with the tension knob will be needed as well.

I have been able to find a happy medium w/o opening my reels up. Someone else may be able to verify, but I don't think you can adjust brakes on the spool like a Shimano.

I don't think your quantum has centrifugal braking. I had an older energy, and if my memory serves me right, it was finicky to set up. I think I kept mine set on 3 or 4 and let her eat.

If you keep experimenting you will get it down. And to be honest, I don't own or have ever used a baitcaster I didn't have to thumb at all.

Not trying to be mean, but maybe you should stick to spinning tackle or upgrade to a DC reel if you don't want to thumb the spool.

Yeah it has a setting inside of 0-6 and you just turn it. I don't think I can I pop in and out any brakes. Just needed to know what would be a good reference of a number to start at? If anyone has any thoughts that be great. Thanks again suspendingjerk for your help

SAME THING HAPPENED TO ME!!!!!!!!!!!!! I eventually thought about selling the reel because I could not get it to cast I then put the internal breaks on one and I started casting BEAUTIFULLY.

hope this helps,
