Nlm321 Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 I don't want to buy braid but i need good line for my bait caster. Over 10 lbs but under 20 lbs. Something that won't rat nest as easily as the other line i use. thanks guys. I'm fishing a baitcaster for crankbaits and jigs and stuff Quote
Super User Choporoz Posted March 12, 2015 Super User Posted March 12, 2015 What are you using now? And....why do you think that the line is your problem? Quote
The Next KVD Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 I guess it depends. how thick of cover are you fishing, what brand did you previously use, what baits are you throwing, ect. Agood line that I use is 15lb P-Line CX Premium. Your going to get a lot of different answers as everybody has their personal preference. Quote
Super User fishballer06 Posted March 12, 2015 Super User Posted March 12, 2015 I'm assuming this is for a spinning setup? What are you fishing for? What are you fishing with? This is a very broad question. Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted March 12, 2015 Super User Posted March 12, 2015 First, if you are having too many "rat's nests" commonly referred to as backlashes, I recommend learning how to set up your casting reel correctly and then practice casting with an inexpensive 15 lb monofilament. Being able to present your offerings successfully & accurately could allow you to make a more confident final line choice. A-Jay Quote
Super User F14A-B Posted March 12, 2015 Super User Posted March 12, 2015 Well now! What line ( exactly ) are you currently breeding rats in? What is your structure, cover requirements? Gotta give up a little more intel to get back more appropriate feedback.. What is your rod/reel setup? A-jay may be right on the baitcasting reel setup being incorrect. It's likely a rod/ reel setup issue, rather than a line handling problem.. 1 Quote
Nlm321 Posted March 12, 2015 Author Posted March 12, 2015 I'm using a 7 foot medium heavy with a Abu Garcia black Max 6:4:1 Quote
Alpha Male Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 It seems like youre just starting out with baitcasters so I would recommend something cheap like Suffix elite mono, yo-zuri hybrid co-polymer, or even some berkley XL mono. those are all cheap like but very good lines. I would say you should start with either 12 or 15lb rating. Quote
jonnyblazex Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 Its the black max. Try turning up the mag brake knob a little, maybe 1/4 way or more, and see what happens. When starting out with a new to me reel, I'll set the brakes pretty high, then work my way down to the point im comfortable. Remember to use your thumb! Quote
yakingfisherman Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 Two lines I suggest using that will make it easier is trilene xl in 10- 12lb and sunline super natural in 14-16lb. Both lines are limp with little to no memory. Should help you cast better. If that does not work try tuning your reel more. Quote
Suspendingjerk Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 This is a loaded question here. Everyone will have a different opinion. I recommend p-line flouroclear or cx. Some of the best line I have used in years, and the manageability is really nice. Just be sure to lubricate your knots. Quote
