Hey guys, I am from Ohio originally and I go to school at West Virginia University.  My buddies want me to fish this kayak tournament with them at stonewall jackson lake in WV and i was wondering what the water clarity is normally, and also, if there are crawfish in this lake.

,Thanks

Water is usually pretty clear, 5-6 ft visibility, there are crawfish, one of the best lures on the lake are green pumkin jigs

I'm not sure which part of the lake you're fishing, but be prepared to fish deep and don't expect to find weeds.

A lot of paddling in that long narrow lake.  take a look at it on Google Earth and you will see.   As for clarity it depends when and where you launch from.  The Roanoke area is usually murky to muddy in the spring as is the area up from the Vandalia area.  Both Skin creeks can murky bad in the spring as well.  If you go out of the State Park area than that area tends to stay clear.  I have caught a lot of nice bass flipping the abundant standing timber and sunken road beds the past few years.  Good Luck.

Can any of the locals confirm if Stonewall is open yet? It's about a 2 hour drive for me, so I'd like to know for sure before I make the trip down 79.
