Jim Mac Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 I have the Nucanoe Frontier 12' and I occasionally use a transom mount trolling motor. I'd like to rig up a simple way to kill the motor, if I ever fell out with motor on. I was thinking of using alligator clips(like the Minn Kota motors used to come with), drilling a hole in one of them, and attaching a rope or lanyard to it. The other end would attach to my vest. If I fell out, the clip would be pulled off the battery post, killing the motor. Does this sound like it would work? Does it matter if I attach to the pos. or neg. cable? Thanks. Quote
Super User Darren. Posted March 11, 2015 Super User Posted March 11, 2015 I'm not sure to your answer, but I'm going to keep an eye on the answers. I run a TM on my yak, too, no kill switch. Quote
BaitMonkey1984 Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 Might be easier to just attach a lanyard from your vest to the yak, sorta like the surfers have. Only issue I foresee with that possible solution is the motor could still possibly operate with you in the water-resulting in a dangerous situation. Quote

The kayak would just tow me around the lake !! Quote
Super User Scott F Posted March 12, 2015 Super User Posted March 12, 2015 I would use a Bigfoot trolling motor foot switch. It has a momentary on/off switch where as soon as you take your foot off, it shuts off the motor. Makes it easy to use as it keep your hands free to fish. Quote

I used one of those when I had my jon boat and I hated it. Quote
Super User Scott F Posted March 12, 2015 Super User Posted March 12, 2015 Thanks. I used one of those when I had my jon boat and I hated it. I was going to get one for my personal pontoon. What did you hate about it? Quote
Jim Mac Posted March 12, 2015 Author Posted March 12, 2015 Hated it is probably a little strong. I mounted it on the front casting deck, and it and the wire always seemed to be in the way. And I had to steer the motor by hand anyway, so it really didn't add any convenience. I used a transom model trolling motor, with the head reversed, on the bow. Quote
