0119 Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 I'm having a hard time finding the right hook locally. What are you guys using? 5/0 or the ever so hard to find 6/0? Quote
Super User F14A-B Posted March 11, 2015 Super User Posted March 11, 2015 Both, owner cps in 5/0 & 6/0.. As well as saltwater fish head spins w a 3/4 oz head and a 5/0 mustad hook.. If you need the #'s I can post them.. Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted March 11, 2015 Super User Posted March 11, 2015 If you're looking for a weighted swim bait hook - check out Falcon Lures Bait-Jerk Superline Hook 5/0 & 6/0 works for me If you're looking for a straight up ewg - check out the Owner Wide Gap Plus - Beast of a hook - same sizes. Also a Trokar Mag worm hook - same sizes - but this one is a little longer with a little less "gap" A-Jay 1 Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted March 11, 2015 Super User Posted March 11, 2015 5/0 round bend offset That Too. A-Jay Quote
Super User F14A-B Posted March 11, 2015 Super User Posted March 11, 2015 Yup, my mistake, missed the magnum part! Owner Wide Gap plus 7/0 5139-71 Owner Beast 3/8 weighted 7/0 w/ CPS That's what I use w the magnum when I fish those. Cheapest swimbait on the market! Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted March 11, 2015 Super User Posted March 11, 2015 I don't fish the magnum super fluke but I do occasionally throw the 6" Slug-O and for that I use the Owner twist lock light in a 5/0, but they also make it in a 6/0 that would work with the magnum. I know a lot of guys look at me and tell me I should use a heavier hook like the beast hook but if I'm in sparse cover, I can set that hook with 6lb line if I needed to but it is stout enough for 12lb to 14lb line but it is a light wire but strong, I have yet to have a smallmouth bend it. War Eagle 44 Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 Same as some of the other guys, Owner Beast. I fish them on the un-weighted version the most. Quote
0119 Posted March 12, 2015 Author Posted March 12, 2015 Yeah I've found some 5/0 Beasts but wanted a longer hook and I'd rather have a thinner wire since I stick with mono. I think I'll order up some of the 5139-71's. Thanks everybody for your advise. Quote
Big Swimbait Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 All above are good choices, but this my Fluke hook of choice: http://penhooks.com/products/f-hook 1 Quote

shanksmare Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 If you are fishing for larger fish in heavy cover the Owner Beast should warrant your consideration. A friend of mine (a former guide) used these hooks with large homemade Sluggo type lures on 10,000 sized spinning reels with 65 lb braid for casting to school tuna (up to 150#s). They should be fine with any bass you might encounter. Quote
