A KGB Operative Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 Hi, my girlfriends brother and I are mildy close and I enjoy the guys company on fishing trips, Pro tip, hes a good fisherman. I was wondering what baits I could get him. I was thinking around the 20-30 dollar price range. I was trying to decide what to gift him. I was looking at moreau baits, shellcracker g2s, really anything that he hasn't seen himself before. Quality guy that doesn't like spending too much on tackle so I want to gift him a nice one. Or, should I grab a bunch of 5 dollar lures that I believe are cool as all hell? He fishes most styles, but his targets are bass, northern pike, and walleye. Does anyone have any recommendations? With that said, I think we all have that one lure we would love to get, but might not want to put out said dollar amount. (For a while that was a Shell Cracker for me, but has moved into upgrading to some higher end baits such as Megabass). Maybe he is the same. Would love a higher end bait, but just can't see putting out $20-30 for just one. Regardless of what you get him, I am sure he will be happy. Any Fisher man or woman that would turn a nose up to free gifted tackle is just.... prudish.. Quote

They would never tell you. Hootie What he said. I feel like choosing baits is a very personal thing. I always tell my wife the same thing when she insists on buying me something for Christmas. Of course she doesn't fish and only knows the difference between a crankbait and a spinnerbait because I obsess. Then, I suppose, I was very surprised when she got me a S-ton of green pumpkin soft plastics and 6XDs with a giant tackle bag last Christmas. But yeah, gift card. That's two gifts. You buy him the bait, and he has the fun of actually purchasing it. Quote

I get the argument that fishing tackle is/can be personal. And I have received my share of stuff that I rolled my eyes at or wish the gifter had gotten something else. But, you know what? Every single gifted lure in my possession has been used and has been used until it caught fish -- AND I still remember who gave me each and every one of them. I have no clue who all has ever given me a gift card, much less what I bought with them. You fish with him and obviously know a little about him -- buy him something that he might not get for himself....or if that doesn't work for you, how about a filet knife or scale or leatherman-type tool or something? Maybe hand-tie a few jigs....very easy to do, but personal and would be special - no question. Quote

It's not like trying to tell the wife what to get.
