lanzbass Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 So there I am with my family or friends just pulled up to the Lake... I grab my gear and beeline it to a point in the Lake ... Where I ...just have this feeling ... the big one is waiting there for me... But after one hour of nonstop fishing , I don't get a strike or nibble ! Yet sometimes I get this feeling to cast in a certain place and bam first cast , got a nice one Skill? Intuition ? Lucky ? Unlucky ? Chance? Or just a feeling ? Whats your opinion ? Or story ? Quote
Super User Sam Posted March 10, 2015 Super User Posted March 10, 2015 All the time. Happens more than not. You can have great skill. You can be extremely lucky. You can have a stretch of bad luck. You can luck out and by chance hit them. You can have a feeling about a spot. But if the bass are not there all of the above is for naught. 2 Quote
DocNsanE Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 Yeah this happens to me too -- I think a part of it might just be confidence. When you just KNOW there's a fish there, you just seem to focus in a little bit more on everything from the cast to the way your line is moving and every little vibration coming up the rod. 1 Quote
Super User buzzed bait Posted March 10, 2015 Super User Posted March 10, 2015 everytime i check my powerball numbers i have the same feeling..... 8 Quote
FrogFreak Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 Man, I just think it would be boring to catch a fish every time you thought you would. It's the anticipation that keeps me coming back for more. 2 Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted March 10, 2015 Super User Posted March 10, 2015 Oh yeah. I will see a spot and I just know there is a hawg sitting there just waiting for my bait. I hate it when that feeling turns into I should have been fishing over there.... 1 Quote
Ozark_Basser Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 I'll get in that mode a lot when I'm power fishing. I'll just be sitting there covering lots of water, then I'll get in a zone where you just feel a bite coming and it usually does. 1 Quote
Big C Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 I get that feeling ALL THE TIME. If it doesn't go away try Exlax. 1 Quote
fishangdood Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 It kind of sucks to have the feeling, be right about it, and then to find someone else on that same spot the next day. It also happens to be that someone fishing 50 yards down the bank from you the day before. 2 Quote

paul. Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 the only time i know they're there is when i can see they're there or see signs that they're there. if i don't see they're there or see signs they're there and i think they're there anyway, i fish there. if catch one there, i keep fishing there. if i don't catch one there and i still think they're there, i fish a different presentation there or go back there at a different time. they're there or they're not there. you cannot make them be there by feeling, thinking, or hoping they're there. there. but yeah, sometimes i just have a feeling there's a good one there. 1 Quote

Super User RoLo Posted March 11, 2015 Super User Posted March 11, 2015 I put most of my marbles on location, so I always have the feeling that bass are present. On the other hand, I don't always have the feeling that I'll be able to catch them (bass disposition can run very negative). Even if I have no action, I'll leave my spot believing that bass are there, but my presentation didn't make the cut. I've shown this to be the case on numerous occasions, by making contact at the same spot on my return route. Roger 1 Quote
gobig Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 It's beyond confidence. It's intuition. It's that split second you truly communicate with nature on a higher level. 2 Quote

Super User SirSnookalot Posted March 11, 2015 Super User Posted March 11, 2015 It's timing, throwing a lure at that exact moment in time, a few seconds before or after can make all the difference. Mathematically fishing is 50/50 on any cast, either you get a strike or you don't. 1 Quote
Super User scaleface Posted March 11, 2015 Super User Posted March 11, 2015 No. I never get a strange supernatural feeling that there is a fish right there and cast at it. 1 Quote

Mathematically fishing is 50/50 on any cast, either you get a strike or you don't. Mathematically, I think it's more like 99% you won't get a strike, 1% you will I've yet to catch 200 fish on 400 casts 1 Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted March 13, 2015 Super User Posted March 13, 2015 Mathematically, I think it's more like 99% you won't get a strike, 1% you will I've yet to catch 200 fish on 400 casts True the reality is that most people do not have a very high percentage of strikes per cast. It's still either you get a strike or you don't and that puts the odds at 50/50. I'm quite sure you have caught a fish on every single cast, or 2 catch fish on 1 cast, or get a strike and lose the fish and get second strike before you have reeled in. I have done those three scenarios dozens upon dozens of times. 1 Quote
