DocNsanE Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 Since the tip of the day thread has died out a little, I thought I'd try to get some fresh tips out of all of you with a new spin on the question. What thing do you find yourself forgetting to do or to focus on when you know you should be? My question sounds weird to my own ears, so here are a few examples: - I know I should, but I often forget to watch the line when fishing on a semi slack presentation - I know I should, but I often forget to let out some extra line to make sure my jig falls straight and doesn't pendulum back to me - I know I should, but I often forget to wear my life jacket - I know I should, but I often forget to bring TP OK I think you get the idea... so let's hear it. Fellow anglers, what is it that you forget to do even if you know better? Quote
Preytorien Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 A couple for me..... 1. Check my knot after a couple of fish or getting un-hung 2. Make a good long bomb cast and fast retrieve to re-seat the line on my casting reel - saves a lot of headaches with line dig or backlashes 3. Adjust my brakes when I cast in different wind conditions 4. Bring enough life jackets for the people on my little boat that "forgot" theirs Quote
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted March 10, 2015 Super User Posted March 10, 2015 I'm notorious for forgetting to retie. I also forget to be versatile when the situation calls for it. I'm pretty stubborn. 2 Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted March 10, 2015 Super User Posted March 10, 2015 I Know I Should, But I Often Forget To .... Remember that every single trip out onto the water is a potential life threating situation. Safety simply must be the number one priority - I have at least one person who depends on me to come home safe. A-Jay 6 Quote

Super User Catt Posted March 10, 2015 Super User Posted March 10, 2015 I often forget & tie a Rat-L-Trap on my spinner bait rod, confuses it real bad! I forget rain at 60 mph hurts! DocNsanE Posted March 10, 2015 Author Posted March 10, 2015 When fishing frogs, I often forget to wait to feel the weight before setting the hook... it's just so d**n exciting when you see the water blow up on a strike Quote

Dogmatic Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 I know I should, but I often forget to... hydrate, 8 hrs baking in the sun seriously dehydrates a person, and that 32 oz of coffee I had at 5 in the morning didn't help, and mistakes will happen. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted March 10, 2015 Super User Posted March 10, 2015 I Know I Should, But I Often Forget To... Slow down when fishing plastics. I get really bad after casting a crankbait for a while. I have to take a deep breath and slow myself down. Quote
Big C Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 (edited) I forget to bring my paddle when I go kayak fishing, ridicule and heckling soon follows. Then I have to find and use a big stick to paddle which makes small children point and laugh. After 20 minutes of answering "Why aren't you using a paddle? By the way you ain't gonna catch nothing on that big ole' lure you should be using a purple worm." I usually just leave. Update: Just got home from yak fishing guess what I forgot. Yeah, my paddle. My brother was just rolling 2nd time in 3 trips. Edited March 11, 2015 by Big C 1 Quote
Patrick Morrow Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 I know I should, but I rarely perform a maintenance work on my reels I have not yet started fly fishing Quote

Ozark_Basser Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 I tend to forget scissors and pliers when I go bank fishing, and a tape measurer. Any combination or all of those things. I havent forgot the camera though in quite some time. Ive learned my lesson there. Just last season I finally learned to force myself to let a jig fall on completely slack line. It definitely pays off. Quote
