That's why when I'm up in Canada pike fishing, we tie the jaw spreaders to the boat. Too many went over the side still in the mouth of the fish.

When the pike bite is on - every thing is done over the side and every thing is tied to the boat - super long nose pliers & the can't do without it - jaw spreader.

Of course it always stinks to lose an expensive baits (which is why I will only go so high) but the most painful losses are those which are almost irreplaceable.  Once, on a trip to Canada's Lake of the Woods I had borrowed a friends Cordell Spot.  The bite was slow and though we'd pick up the occasional smallie, they were few and far between.  But that Spot was like a sirens call and it was ALMOST one fish after the other.  When the action slowed, I made the mistake of cutting it off and my friend, seizing the opportunity, snatched it back up, tied it on, and proceded to catch more fish with it.  I tried practically everything in my box but only that single bait seemed to get any real results.  I don't know if it was the sound (it did seem louder than usual) or if it was the color but that single bait WAS the magic bullet.  When he eventually lost it to a snag he got real quiet.  I was sad, too, but at least now he and I were on an even playing field.

8 inch bbz-1, I was using it on lighter tackle (16 lb mono) and cast into the wind got a backlash and it went flying. It was a slow sink model, never saw it again. ;(

My buddy finally bought a phantom jerk bait to use for pike. He attached it to his leader & first cast it went sailing across the water. $25 down the drain when his improperly closed snap opened up. I laughed so hard I cried.  :cry3:

Lol I bring them in the boat. Last time my brother in law tried this, the fish slipped out of his hand into the boat. Bite his ankle like a little ankle biting dog.

Nice - that would have made a sweet video  ~

Every nasty hook in the hand or finger I've gotten, came courtesy of a little Snot Rocket -

I do not fool with them - Regardless of the size - It's all business.

How bout two LV 500's on successive casts. I was using braid and the volcanic rock at the lake cut it like sewing thread.

I lost a lc pointer xd last sunday after hooking up to a DD striper. Thing took me for a ride on my yak and tangled my line down deep. Spent 20 minutes trying to get it back but couldn't. :cry4:

I too had all my tackle, rods and reels stolen on one occasion, and my boat in another occasion. That's like getting punched in the gut.

I've lost 2 68 Hudds and had a 110 magnum fall apart on me.

One comes to mind, a Strike King elite buzzbait($5) not expensive but had so much sentimental value to me. There was just something about this particular one that was like magic. It would catch fish when nothing else would. I had at the time also caught my personal biggest bass on it in a heavy rain storm, and the bass exploded on it. It got to the point where there was no longer any paint on it, and it was missing more then half its skirt. I made the decision to retire it, with the fear I would one day lose it. Then for some reason the next season I decided to try it once again....wouldnt you know thats the last I ever saw of if...flew off on a cast towards the center of a pond. I would pay $100 to have that lure back.

Other then that, I have lost countless numbers of my favorite Booyah spinnerbaits that cost about $6. Over the years Im sure it would total  more then $100 worth hahaha

Before I started purchasing my own tackle I lost a good bit of my grandpa's Rapalas.  He used to tell me I needed a hunting license not a fishing license since I spent so much time in the trees.  Nowadays, I do whatever I can to get the lure back.  Lost a $30 umbrella rig a couple weeks ago, that hurt.

I don't usually don't buy baits that are more than $10 due to the large number of toothy critters around here. It doesn't matter what you use, their teeth are as sharp as razors. So many times you set the hook and just see line flying back at you. Unfortunately I managed to lose a 3700 tray with at least $100 worth of crankbaits in it. That one hurt a bit especially since it was back in my broke high schooler days haha

The most expenssive lure i remember losing was an LC pointer $15-

Threw a brand new Sammy way up into a tree a few years ago. My buddy still considers it one of our all time best mishaps.

I got a RM Negotiator from a local shop. Guy gave it to me for $40.

Worst lure experience, Last summer when Vixens were all but impossible to find i was fishing on lanier. Casted it right off. Halfway to it a fish came up and tagged it. Never saw it again

Beavers, snakes, snapping turtles, catfish, alligator gar, drowning, muskrats, hooking yourself, sharp poles or other trash, hypothermia, fear of boat drifting away.

$1 plastic Stanley Ribbit frog.  Unfortunately attached to it was $20 Power pro, $109 Daiwa Ballistic T3, and a $99 Fenwick Silverhawk.  Frog hooks got lodged in the back of the boat on 1st cast and sling shotted it 50 ft into the river. 1st day out with new setup.  Still makes me sick.

$12 swimbait on the third cast on Lake Gaston.

Lost an entire tacklebox of spoons while pier fishing one year.  10 years worth of grabbing spoons of every shape/size type and all but the one on my line knocked into the water by some idiot not paying attention to the other fisherman on the pier.

He later mailed me a $75 gift card to Gander Mountain because he felt so bad, but it didn't even come close to replacing the number of spoons I lost.

I lost a custom painted bluegill squarebill crankbait on the first cast I used it, something with teeth, felt the tug, set the hook it switched directions and "ping" gone. Cost: $25.. I did hit my trolling motor casting a umbrella rig and the line broke as I was throwing it, it flew 1 hundred feed or so and landed in a tree, I ran the boat to the shore and unhooked it and got it back. Had the same thing happen with a Strike King 6XD crankbait, I watched it to see where it landed, thankfully it was a floater, I just went and got it!
