caudburns11 Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 Still trying to get started in building rods and im collecting supplies that I need when I have the money. I thought that before I start an expensive one I should have some practice. I want to build a rod for my grandpa that wouldn't be too expensive but still decent. Specifically I want to make a spinning rod for mostly bass fishing. Nothing to specific because he's old fashioned only has a couple rods he uses on a few small ponds on their farm. I don't want to really break the bank on this one considering it will be my first but I do want something of decent quality. Any help would be grea. Thanks Quote
Ben Eipert Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 Check out PacBay's entry level blanks or the MHX ones. Also Mudhole's CRB series. I have used them and they will shock you for the price. They will also take a lot of abuse. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 Those are good choices. The CRB are a steal Quote
Super User Angry John Posted March 10, 2015 Super User Posted March 10, 2015 I got one of the high modulus kits they come with nice guides. Quote
uncustered Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 I have built 5 of the mhx sj843 ( 2 for me).. It is a great inexpensive, sensitive blank. Mudhole does offer kits, but I prefer Fuji guides and reel seat. A friend has been building rods for 30 plus years and he claims never having to replace a Fuji guide..... Quote
sarcazmo Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 Before you start worrying about blanks to practice on establish a budget. Once you know how much you want to spend you'd be surprised at how much nice stuff you can grab. Quote
caudburns11 Posted March 12, 2015 Author Posted March 12, 2015 Thanks for the help. I think I'm gonna go with one of the CRB by MudHole blanks and the get one of the cork handle kits they sell Quote
Batson Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 we have a ton of kits that would work as well. Check out our retailers nation wide for them. Here is a couple of websites to get you started. www.rainshadowrodblanks.com and www.alpsforecast.com Quote
