Still trying to get started in building rods and im collecting supplies that I need when I have the money. I thought that before I start an expensive one I should have some practice. I want to build a rod for my grandpa that wouldn't be too expensive but still decent. Specifically I want to make a spinning rod for mostly bass fishing. Nothing to specific because he's old fashioned only has a couple rods he uses on a few small ponds on their farm. I don't want to really break the bank on this one considering it will be my first but I do want something of decent quality. Any help would be grea.

Thanks

Check out PacBay's entry level blanks or the MHX ones. Also Mudhole's CRB series. I have used them and they will shock you for the price. They will also take a lot of abuse.

I have built 5 of the mhx sj843 ( 2 for me).. It is a great inexpensive, sensitive blank.

Mudhole does offer kits, but I prefer Fuji guides and reel seat. A friend has been building rods for 30 plus years and he claims never having to replace a Fuji guide.....

Before you start worrying about blanks to practice on establish a budget.  Once you know how much you want to spend you'd be surprised at how much nice stuff you can grab.
