JigMouth Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 Looking at the best rod in the 150$ range and these seam to be the biggest contenders. Just want everyone's opinions on what is best or worst and why. Also was gonna throw the new IKE rods in there but they just came out. Thanks Quote
MemphisFF Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 Man you're gonna get a variety of answers, I own a 2 *** black and a couple Duckett Micros and I have had no problem with either the only thing I've had was cosmetic wise with my *** but performance it's been really good rods Quote
Super User QUAKEnSHAKE Posted March 9, 2015 Super User Posted March 9, 2015 If by TCS you mean the Okuma TCS you can get the higher end Okuma Helios for $130-140 walmart . Quote
Super User WRB Posted March 9, 2015 Super User Posted March 9, 2015 You should add Loomis E6X in the mix and look at Aaron Martens Enigma Edge series rods. Tom Quote
JigMouth Posted March 9, 2015 Author Posted March 9, 2015 Thanks guys but actually discard the *** and add the ghost. I've had terrible experiences with the *** and wont buy another. Quote
bigturtle Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 Tatula has an impressive amount of power for its weight. If you want a heavy rod, try tatula Quote
JigMouth Posted March 9, 2015 Author Posted March 9, 2015 looking for a standard 7 medium action filler rod to be specific Quote
SenkoGuru Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 I am not paid by any of them but I've fished with Duckett Rod's for a very long time and IMO they are much better than the other rod's listed. Also do not buy a Savvy rod unless you are buying it for moving baits. It is the most dead feeling rod I've ever fished and no where near worth the asking price, if you do not believe me, do an internet search and you will see many others are saying the same thing about the Savvy line. The Tatula rods are nice rod's and they would work great but IMO Duckett should be the first choice. Quote
Super User Montanaro Posted March 9, 2015 Super User Posted March 9, 2015 Tatulas and tcs can be had on amazon for around 100 Quote
Cgrinder Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 It's a shame that you're discarding the ***, as it's the best blank of the bunch. I have a Savvy 703 that I want to get rid of at some point. The build is excellent but the sensitivity is not there for a $180 retail rod. The Tatula would get my vote but there's not really a Medium all-rounder in the line. So I guess get a Duckett? Never thought I'd say that. Quote
JigMouth Posted March 9, 2015 Author Posted March 9, 2015 Theye have a 7 ft. medium action in the tatula series actually. Quote

Super User Jrob78 Posted March 9, 2015 Super User Posted March 9, 2015 Theye have a 7 ft. medium action in the tatula series actually. They do have a 7' Med power but it's a mod fast, more of a cranking stick. Quote
Cgrinder Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 Welcome to the Dark Side......Or should I say the Right, White Side Ha, I wouldn't be opposed to fishing White Ice rods, but the exposed threads and locking nuts on the lower models are a problem for me. Quote
Cgrinder Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 Theye have a 7 ft. medium action in the tatula series actually. I guess it would depend on what you're going to use it for (filler, as you said), but I wouldn't be fishing bottom contact or plastics with a Regular taper. However, if you spooled braid, it could probably work. Quote
Lacustrine Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 Love my Duckett Micro Magic. Very durable and sensitive. 1 Quote
fisherrw Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 I'd spend a little more and get a phenix m1 Quote
Super User gulfcaptain Posted March 10, 2015 Super User Posted March 10, 2015 Gonna have to stick with the ***. TCS is a nice blank....but the butt section is too long for my liking. Ducketts are probably nice too, but again butt section too long and can not stand that trigger grip style on any rod. Just too uncomfortable for me. I'll fish a Falcon Bucco over the TCS, Duckett, and Tatula, but not before the ***. 1 Quote

SenkoGuru Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 Didn't Duckett come out with his rods in 2010? Or was that just when he introduced them? Yes, they did come out in 2010. Boyd won the 2007 Bass Master Classic and then three years later he started his own Rod company. Quote
SDbassin Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 I had a micro magic, sold it and bought an avid x, never looking back Quote
