slimshad Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 Just went there... Not very exciting news. Jason Christie will be the next casey Ashley. Same story lines and all. Like I said not very exciting news. Quote

Same story lines and all. Like I said not very exciting news. How'd that work out for Christie in 2013? Lots of guys from that area that fish Grand a lot. It's not a herring lake either so fish are much easier to pattern. I'll be there again! The last one at Grand was a blast! Quote

Same story line like I said. Boring and not exciting at all. Let me guess, jerk baits and a jig. Nothing changes in my opinion. I thought it was a great Classic there too, just not wanting to see the same thing at the same place so fast. Quote

Grand is a great lake and will have a good battle. Not trying to be a smart butt, but I think your comment of "let me guess, jerkbaits and jigs" is pretty bland... It's late February, early march... What do you throw? Let me guess, jerkbaits and jigs? Quote
slimshad Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 2014 had lipless crankbaits, bladed jigs, flap slaps, and deeper crankbait won it. This year an underspin won it. Skeet was throwing a paddletail swimbait, Hite was drop shotting. Omori was fishing 25-40 feet.. A jig came to play but didnt win. When I say jerkbait and jig, that in my opinion will be about it on Grand. Just too soon in my opinion. Quote
jhoffman Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 Frankly, Im ready to see some northern lakes. Not everyone can make it to these events when theyre all in the South. SOMEONE has to have a connection in some of these places. Id be willing to bet theres a backdoor deal with some money stipulation attached. There are tremendous fisheries all over this country. Keep going to the same locations why? Money Quote
SDbassin Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 Will they ever have a classic on the west coast? Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted March 19, 2015 Author BassResource.com Administrator Posted March 19, 2015 To be frank, no. That will never happen. B.A.S.S. will host one token Elite event on the Delta, Havasu, or Mead each year, just so they can say they're "coast-to-coast", but they're otherwise heavy East coast with a few mid-west events sprinkled in. They have no desire to bring the Classic to the West coast. 1 Quote
Super User F14A-B Posted March 19, 2015 Super User Posted March 19, 2015 Will they ever have a classic on the west coast? Love to see it on Amistad, I don't think the area could support it, but what a great fishery. Quote

Sounds like something Moe, Larry & Curly would fish . . . A-Jay Quote

I really wish they did, I would love too see a classic out here, theres just so much bias towards the east coast and the south, kinda like ESPN with the SEC. It bugs me!!!! Love to see it on Amistad, I don't think the area could support it, but what a great fishery. I would love too see that too, such a great fishery! Quote

Jason Christie and several other competitors caught fish on cranks, Christie had some on a slow rolled spinnerbait too. I'm surprised, although not disappointed, that they're coming back to Grand so soon as well. Having the Classic that early in the year is going to take away some presentation options pretty much no matter where you have it. If the weather is warmer than it was in 2013, there could be much more variety though. Grand is a big lake with a little bit of everything available. I'd like to see them move it maybe to September so it could be held almost anywhere in the country, still be at a time of year where the fishing should be pretty good, and the weather will be cooling off most places so as to not stress the fish too much. FrogTastic Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 Will they ever have a classic on the west coast? They should do one on Castaic. That'd produce a hefty 3-day total! 1 Quote

bighed Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 I enjoyed the classic on Grand but not the drive to and from the lake. I'd like to see it on Amistad but the lake is not fishing well, there are few facilities to hold such an event, and nobody is going to drive down there for the event. Quote
