I'm a baitcaster geek. I know squat about spinning rigs.

I've been trout fishing all winter from a dock, but am starting to venture out to the bank more.

I can cast down to 1/8 oz spoons, Mepps, cranks with my little Baitcaster, but I want to cast 1/64 & 1/32 Trout Magnets.

I have a Daiwa Apollo (short, like 5' or less) ultralight rod with a Shimano IX 1000 reel running 4-6# mono.

My ultralight spinning setup won't get me much distance with Trout Magnets.

I'm assuming I need a longer rod for some distance. Wouldn't mind a light setup instead of ultralight.

As far as spinning reels go...I'm dumb. Looks like larger diameter narrower spools get better distance...and larger line pickup will yield less line twist.

That's another thing...I hate spinning reels because of line twist.

How can I minimize line twist without respooling all the time?

Thanks in advance.

Have a rod built with Micro Wave guides.  No twist and no line slap.

A 6'6" or 7' UL St. Croix Avid and an older 750 sized Shimano (you can find these easily NOS) spooled up with 8-10lb braid (then if you want, add a leader).  Braid is really your only option to eliminate line twist on a spinning reel.

I have a 7' UL Moderate action Avid and it can bomb a trout magnet out there.

Avid 6'ULF, Stradic CI4 1000, Sunline 4lb Senshi

For most fun, Avid 7'ULM

Or for budget, Premier  6'ULF, 6'6ULF, 7'ULM2

Hahaha apparently my budget and your budget are quite different.

Trying to do this for under $150 combo.

Since I'm such a Lew's fanboy...I was thinking about the Tournament Pro HD with a tournament sl rod. Can be done brand new for $150'ish.

But I also know that the world of spinning equipment is a whole different place that I don't yet know.

I use a shimano saros 1000 6 pound fluro and a phenix m1 light action
