5 Dollar Fishing Game Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 Took the wife and daughter on the lake today. Lake was super busy, especially the ramp. We waited to leave while about 4 people were ahead. It appeared that one would launch, the next would leave, and so on. It was our turn. I pulled the boat into the area to tie up. My wife and daughter were standing on the dock. I went to get the truck. As I did this tahoe comes flying in ahead of two other trucks, and starts to back in front of me. They came about 10 feet from my boat. Lady gets out and gets mad because I'm in the way. I explained to her that I was next. She said she didnt care because her boat would take 3 minutes to unload. (she has two guys in the truck who didn't bother to get out) My wife came up at this point and said it is common courtesy to wait your turn and be patient. She got huffy, walked back to her truck and unloaded her boat right next to mine, almost hitting mine. Didn't even care!!! People at the ramp were even telling her to wait. Then she drives the truck back up and I load up to leave. As she was leaving she started running her mouth and my wife was very nice and told her "spandex isn't for everyone" lolAnyway is there some kind of regulation about people that just jump ahead? Or do some people just not care? Quote
Ozark_Basser Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 It's one of the boat ramp "mores," so to speak. "Spandex isn't for everyone." ...that is hilarious. Quote
5 Dollar Fishing Game Posted March 8, 2015 Author Posted March 8, 2015 I hear ya Jiggin. My wife is usually pretty quiet but she was upset about that lady being a tool. Lol Quote
Klebs01 Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 Was there a dock? Seems leaving your boat in a lane while getting your truck is pretty rude. Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted March 8, 2015 Super User Posted March 8, 2015 Busy boat ramps that do not have some kind of "ruling authority" on scene, will inevitably end up as a free for all at some point; especially when they are Open to the Public & FREE. So just like all of the endeavors where the general public is expected to conduct themselves in a manner that reflects that they understand the world doesn't actually revolve around them - there are always folks who seem to think that it does. I try very hard to avoid these places and these people but every once in a while there's a sighting and perhaps even an encounter. I have found that rather than allowing this human(s) to cause me any distress, I actually offer to assist them and often do - works well. Mostly because I can do it with a smile and it gets them out of my way without damage or incident & that much faster. A-Jay Quote
blackmax135 Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 there are no regulations. Just common curtsy and some people don't have that. Ive had this happen a lot to me. 3 People waiting in line to put their boats in and this nice bass boat pulls up to the ramp. Scrawny little teenager gets out and runs to this big nice truck that daddy bought him. He pulls right in to go ahead and back down the ramp so me and one other fella walk up to him about to start backing down and I ask him who he thinks he is pulling in front of everyone. He goes on saying It wont take me long my boat cranks up fast and I have the automatic winch. We were ticked!! I told him to go on down that ramp witch took him 5 min to get down cause he can't back up a trailer!! I was ticked and tired of crap like this always happening so when he got out the truck and cranked up his boat I got in his truck and pulled it up the ramp and put it some were it would take him a while to figure out how to get it out. He was very angry but what was he going to do? That was wrong of me but I had a serious case of ramp rage!! But unluckily he wasn't wearing spandex. LMBO!! Quote

Wife was un loading rest of gear. My truck was almost backed in. What was "rude" was that woman cutting me and two others out of line. 1 Quote

jhoffman Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 You should've taken all the lug nuts off the wheels and pitched em in the lake. I have zero patience for a person like that Quote

Robeng Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 watched a guy last year with his wife cut in front of everyone in line, people started yelling at him. They were quite old, so I was going to cut him "some" slack, but still I dont think this was his first time. Still, he proceeded. But what he forgot to do was raise the motor and as he pulled forward, SCRAPE on the cement ramp. Karma. 1 Quote
Super User gulfcaptain Posted March 9, 2015 Super User Posted March 9, 2015 I have to agree with A-Jay, kill them with kindness, get them on their way and out of everyone elses hair by taking one for the groups well being at the boat ramp. One thing I've learned in the years of operating boats of various sizes, you can medicate and treat just about everything, but you just can't fix stupid no matter how hard you try. 1 Quote
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted March 9, 2015 Super User Posted March 9, 2015 Ramps can be a zoo. My favorite ramps are the ones where you make a "U-turn" into a dead end then back down the ramp. Pretty hard for someone to cut ahead when you have to pull into the staging area to back down the ramp. 1 Quote
lmoore Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 I'm sure everyone has horror stories from ramps. Just last year I was unloading at a ramp with 4 slots. Halfway down the ramp, a guy in a big 25' ish boat pulls up and docks right behind me, with an open ramp slot on either side of us. I proceeded to unload with him getting ticked that I didn't wait for him to load his boat so he would be out of the way. I didn't know what to say so I just took off. Quote
5 Dollar Fishing Game Posted March 9, 2015 Author Posted March 9, 2015 Good stories guys!!! I am glad I am not the only one who experienced this kind of rude stupidity and disregard for others. The point was that she blatantly did that because she didn't want to get stuck waiting. News flash!!!!! We ALL waited! Still, my wife's comment was freaking priceless lol. Quote
StratosME Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 Was there a dock? Seems leaving your boat in a lane while getting your truck is pretty rude. hahaha looks like I'm rude ever time I use the boat ramp! SEEINGS HOW IM ALWAYS BY MYSELF AND THATS THE ONLY WAY!!!!!!!! Quote
Klebs01 Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 hahaha looks like I'm rude ever time I use the boat ramp! SEEINGS HOW IM ALWAYS BY MYSELF AND THATS THE ONLY WAY!!!!!!!! I'm able to do it by myself with out doing it that way. I'll tie up to the dock away from the ramps, back the truck in, then grab the boat and 20 seconds later the boat is on the the trailer. Way faster than blocking a ramp to walk to the truck and while waiting in line to back down the ramp. Not the only way, but it can be a very inconsiderate way. Quote
Klebs01 Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 BTW, I agree she was rude, just seemed like the OP wasn't the most considerate person at the ramp either. Quote
5 Dollar Fishing Game Posted March 9, 2015 Author Posted March 9, 2015 BTW, I agree she was rude, just seemed like the OP wasn't the most considerate person at the ramp either. I'm the OP. Are you serious dude?????? I am not considerate because I did EXACTLY what I was supposed to do and MORE! I was next in line to load up but I CHOSE to let TWO more people go ahead of me. So the girl decides to cut me and two other people off. You need to read the posts better before you start throwing stones bro...... Quote
5 Dollar Fishing Game Posted March 9, 2015 Author Posted March 9, 2015 hahaha looks like I'm rude ever time I use the boat ramp! SEEINGS HOW IM ALWAYS BY MYSELF AND THATS THE ONLY WAY!!!!!!!!Yup. I am often alone too. Guess I need my imaginary invisible friend to pull my truck down......Also today my wife and daughter were with the boat showing we were in the process of loading up to leave. Seems the other 2 dozen people in line were courteous and knew what we were doing. Quote

"I tie up to the dock away from the ramps" What if someone else wants to tie up there too? What if while you're walking up to get your truck I am ready to load/unload? Here is a other good question, what if you go to a lake that doesn't have the "place" to tie up and you MUST tie to the ramp dock and get your truck???? Nope, doesn't make sense man.,.... Quote
Klebs01 Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 I guess the ramps by me are designed differently than yours. If you are ready, I wouldn't be in your way while getting my truck. If the ramp is that busy, I would beach the boat off to the side or wait to ensure I wasn't blocking the ramp. Quote

They helped me get loaded up. ;-) Quote
Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted March 9, 2015 Super User Posted March 9, 2015 Happens to all of us at some point. Politeness just isn't a common thing these days. Neither is common sense. If you ever want a great show, just park yourself in a lawn chair with a few beers down here at a saltwater ramp on a nice weather weekend. I guarantee you won't leave disappointed. 1 Quote
