rboat Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 My older bass boat came with a velcro strip mounted to the deck to hold fishing rods. It is starting to wear out. I am looking for a replacement. I can't seem to find the right size or a type of velcro designed for outdoor use. My current velcro does not have a sticky back or adhesive. The strip is mounted to the deck with pop rivets and it is about 12 inches long and 1.5 inches wide. Would any velcro hold up to outdoor use? Anyone ran into this or have an idea? I found one place on the web, but they sell 50 foot rolls for $50. I don't need a whole roll. Thanks. Quote
Super User Felix77 Posted March 8, 2015 Super User Posted March 8, 2015 They sell replacements at BassPro. I would just do that. Quote
Super User tomustang Posted March 8, 2015 Super User Posted March 8, 2015 Check out the RodBuckle systems Quote
Super User WIGuide Posted March 10, 2015 Super User Posted March 10, 2015 Koofy is probably right about what was on your boat originally. Cheap and easy to replace, however if you want an upgrade, look into the rod buckle system. It costs a little bit more, but it's well worth it. Quote
Super User Way2slow Posted March 11, 2015 Super User Posted March 11, 2015 As mentioned, most likely you had the RodSavers. Like most others have found, they are usually only good for a couple of years, especially if the boats is stored outside. I changed over to a system that just has a small loop on the deck and has a round, elastic bungee cord that's goes into the gun wall when not being used. Every three years or so I replace the piece of bungee. Luv this system, works great, and the best part, I had a customer that made the bungee and gave me a 250 ft role of it and a few dozen of the hooks that goes on it. So I have a supply that will last several liife times.. If you stick with the RodSaver, go ahead and order two or three, so you will have spares and save on the shipping every time. You will go through them pretty quick. 1 Quote
matuka Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 I had the Velcro straps also, and yes mine wore out too. I didn't like that I needed both hands to secure them anyway. I changed to the bungee system. Clean, and one handed. I wasn't a fan of the retractable system, though it seems most are. I kept getting line or lures stuck in them. Quote
