bhoff Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 Does anyone know how or have any experience with selling fishing tackle online? I have quite a few reels that I would be interested in selling but don't know where to sell them. Quote
Super User *Hootie Posted March 8, 2015 Super User Posted March 8, 2015 We have a fishing flea market right here on the forum. Just go near the bottom of the forum list. Hootie Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted March 8, 2015 Super User Posted March 8, 2015 The flea market here is tops IMHO. Ebay is great for buyers, or the people selling massive amounts of stuff, for the guy just selling a couple things.....not so good. They dig the heck out of you with fee's now, and then paypal get's there part of the action too. 2 Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted March 8, 2015 Super User Posted March 8, 2015 Our Flea Market is offered as a "convenience" for our members, much like a garage sale. Please read "FAQs" and "Terms of Use" before posting. We expect new members to introduce themselves and participate in the forums before becoming active in the Flea Market. More specifically, you may not post anything you make or buy for resale. Think "garage sale" not a market bazaar. -Kent a.k.a. roadwarrior Global Moderator Quote
bhoff Posted March 8, 2015 Author Posted March 8, 2015 Thanks for the help guys. I've been wanting to make the switch to left handed retrieve baitcasters for a while but didn't know where to sell the reels I have now. Quote

And you can go on Craig's List for a more local approach. Quote
FloridaFishinFool Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 And when selling on ebay, avoid international sales and shipping if at all possible. Paypal will hit you for a currency conversion fee that is outrageous! When all is said and done, between ebay and paypal, they will take as much as 15% or more of the total so you gotta tack that on to the sale if you want to make any money. I have a couple of reels on ebay now and it is tough trying to get what you want for them. Quote
adam32 Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 Funny because paypal is owned by ebay...bunch of crooksThey are crooks! They double dip out of your money. When you sell an item the money goes into your paypal account and PayPal takes a percentage of that money for transferring it. THEN you have to pay ebay their fees AFTER PayPal (which ebay owns) has taken a percentage of that money. And now they have even decided to take a percentage of the shipping costs!!! So if you sell something with a 10 dollar shipping charge ebay takes a dollar of it! It's absolutely ridiculous! If you sell an item for 100 dollars you only end up with around 85 dollars by the time they get done. Oh and good luck trying to get ANY help from eBay if you are a seller. You will end up getting screwed in the end, Ebay always sides with the buyers 100%. Sorry for the rant. Quote
wnybassman Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 I've always done reasonably well on Ebay. I feel that because of the larger audience, things generally sell higher than a smaller market, most times more than offsetting the seller fees. It's been years since I've sold something there and was disappointed on how little it sold for. I ALWAYS start my auctions at 99¢ with no reserve, no matter how much I want for it. Reserves and high start bids are a turn-off for buyers. Get a lot of players in the game early and things always sell for what they are worth, if not more. Quote

I agree with you that ebay usually does get you the best price. And I always start my auctions at 99 cents no reserve and free shipping. I do sell a lot of stuff on ebay and make decent money. Having said all that I still feel like ebay fees are a total rip off! And they really do nothing at all to help sellers. If someone buys an item from you and decides for any reason they want their money back you're screwed. It doesn't matter if you say no refunds or returns. Ebay will give the buyer their money back no questions asked, and then they will get the money from you one way or another. Quote
