Joedodge Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 Was bank fishing a local large lake today. Got a 1 pounder second cast in with a ribbon tail worm. Kept walking the area, it has a lot of dead brush and sticks on the bank I got around one part to a cut in the lake that is shallow and lily pads, and some grass the second I stepedaround the corner they exploded splashing out of the shallows like crazy! I stood there a minute and fished it a while but didn't get any hits. I could see them splash in the thick grass patches tho. It was probably the coolest thing I've seen in a long time! Quote

Are you sure they were bass? Down here when that happens its usually big blue tilapia. Bass are very stealthy when they exit fast. All you see is the swirl in the water but never splash unless they were in extremely shallow water. 1 Quote
Joedodge Posted March 8, 2015 Author Posted March 8, 2015 Well d**n lol! So much for that cool story. Water was probably 6-8 inches to 2 feet deep. 1 Quote

Yup, most of the time here it's carp that make the splashes. When it's bass, they usually dart to cover quickly. Quote

Super User buzzed bait Posted March 9, 2015 Super User Posted March 9, 2015 usually when i see a half dozen torpedos fire off in less than 5 feet of water it's massive carp. if they were bass, quit telling people about it Quote
0119 Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 The tilapia beds will be massive like a bomb crater. Bass will take advantage of overhanging or submergent cover, the tilapia will bed in the wide open and often in groups closer than bass will bed allow other bass near theirs. Quote
