was hard not to grab another Curado I but i found a deal on the Tatula and wanted to try one. got it last nite and put it on my rod and with my small hands it does feel a little large. probably not a dealbreaker but was just wondering if anyone has smaller hands and this reel do u get used to palming a slightly larger reel

I wear a medium glove so I don't have huge hands. I've noticed it does start to bother me after a while of fishing with it. It definitely doesn't palm as easily as my lews reels.

The palming isn't that bad but that mag dial does rub my pointer finger so I have to palm it a different way. Definitely not a reel I would use for jerk baits.

I'm in the same boat, I wear medium gloves and I honestly wanted to like it and it casted decent enough but it was just to big for my hands and uncomfortable to fish with for an extended period of time so I got rid of it. but that's not to say you wouldn't get used to it and like it.

I actually didn't mind the size, but I was having repeated gear issues with mine, so I will probably end up keeping it for parts or something. It palmed alright I guess.

Palming a reel is big deal. Especially for prolonged periods of time. If the reel just doesn't feel right after a few minutes, the feeling will get worse after several hours. Find a reel that you are comfortable palming. I hear Tatula are great reels. The style was not for me however.  Reels that have palmed right for me were/are:  Shimano's Abu's Lew's.

Listen to BassinLou, I really wanted to like the Tatula when it came out but it just felt clumsy to me and I had people tell me it is just an optical illusion but my hands say different and I have large hands, Daiwa may be done for me if they keep this T-wing system as the reel won't get any slimmer.

Dan, are you sure you meant BassinLou?  They palm great for him.

People keep looking at the width but it's actually the profile of the Tatula that bothers some people. Actual width of the Tatula and the Curado is about the same but profile is completely different. Shimano's latest reels near the nose of the reel gets smaller. This makes it feel like it is less wide especially to people that has their pointer finger around the nose. With the Tatual it starts out narrow around the clutch bar but gets wider by the nose for some odd reason. This makes the Tatula feel wider.

Medium hands here. That is why the palming thing is no big deal to me. Back in the day I couldn't palm anything so I adjusted and I really don't do it. When I tried I didn't like setting the hook that way, ergo I love my Tatula!

I agree that how a reel fits your hand is very important. I would look around and find one that feels good - besides there ara a ton of good choices out there

Yes, he told him that if the reel is uncomfortable after a few minutes of palming it, it will get worse feeling after a few hours, he gave him the right advise.

Duh.  Not only did I miss his first post, but I see after reading through again that he wasn't referring to the Tatula when he made that comment.  My mistake and my apology.

With my tatula and (old) zillion I hold the reel with two fingers behind the trigger, with most other reels I hold them with all 4 fingers in front of the trigger.

I have large sized hands. My TDZ is engulfed in my hand. The tatula, not so much but it doesn't bother me. Really isn't a factor in why I choose a reel.

Me either (for reel size).  The Alphas and Zillion are both favorites of mine as is the Curado 51E and Chronarch 100B.  Who doesn't like a TD-Z ?  :teeth:

I have pretty large hands and Daiwa reels have always palmed well for me.  I don't find the Tatula to be overly large or uncomfortable, everyone is different though.
