I found this video on YouTube when I was looking up doodling for bass.  What a nice fishing show.  I think the cameraman for the show is putting the videos up on Youtube.  I've never heard of John Shaw or this show before.  It's so different from the modern fishing shows on today.  John Shaw seems very unpretentious and nice.  Don Lovino is good too.  So many modern fishing shows have the hosts act super cool and push fishing junk on the view over and over.  This video was refreshing.  It's nice to see people in fishing shows act like real people like they do in this episode and not the typical demigods we see in modern shows.

I cant even watch a lot of todays fishing shows. I   hate the fake reality show format . Pretentious is the best way to describe them.  Come on , act like its not the first fish you ever caught .

I agree.

I don't often watching fishing shows but over the last couple of weeks I watched 2 while I was surfing.  The first show was nothing but an infomercial for a new lure, watching it dart back forth under water and listening to the accolades of this new lure, was a total bore.  When they weren't talking about this lure it was their brand of rods and reels, I could have caught those fish on a snoopy rod.  After all this the host's epilogue was an attempt at proselytization, thanks but I'll seek spiritual guidance elsewhere.

The second show was hosted by an obnoxious young man with a Cohiba dangling from his mouth for most of the telecast.  The show was actually interesting as they were catching some really nice fish in Panama but the host was almost unbearable to watch.  I will say this, he appeared to be eating great food and having lot fun, and probably making a nice buck out of it, so good for him.

If I had to push products in order to get paid to fish on TV, I probably would-----Can't blame them.

Larry Dahlberg is the best.  He pushes Jack Links a little, but he talks about lures he has made way more than stuff at BPS.  He cares less about brand name stuff than just about anyone.  And he goes for some of the coolest fish nobody has ever heard of.

Well, They are sponsored by these companies so do have to shill. Some do go over the top though. There are a few shows I watch where they shill, but they are also catching with the said product, plus showing you how to fish it.  I can deal with that.

Yeah, I was kind of surprised when I first saw one of his episodes.

Harold Ensley was probably the nicest guy I've ever met that had his own fishing show. He used to be at the Sportshow every year and every year I'd talk his ear off (I talked to him for over an hour the first year I met him when I was 6). He remembered me every year and talked like we were old friends despite close to a century apart in age.

Excellent video. A more precise note of clarification is needed though. Doodling is vertical fishing over deep water, for suspended bass. You need to find the fish first on the sonar, or have a pretty good idea of the depth they are suspending at. Then lower your doodle to that depth and hold it there, while shaking.

Problems is, I don't believe the video was clear enough on this facet of the presentation. Instead, they switched to the aquarium where it left you with the impression that doodling is on an "on-bottom" technique. I don't believe it is, but I could be wrong. If I am wrong, then there is no way I'm pulling a bass out of 60' of water, like where they were fishing over. That's a sure death sentence for the bass, unless you fizz them. And fizzing is not something anyone really practices on a regular basis. At least not the anglers I associate with. Again, I could be way off base or I missed something after two viewings.

He didn't do bass fishing shows that I saw but Jose Wejebe always seemed like a down to earth guy who would be a lot of fun to fish with. RIP

Tami Curtis is the definition of unpretentious.....caught Fisn4Fun on Amazon Prime....Won't learn a lot, but it is, as the title suggests sorta fun.  Can't watch when my wife's in the room, however, because she can't stand her giggle.

I can't stand those two hosts on that Fishing University show.  Their social/political/corporate love indoctrination of teenagers is pathetic.  These fishing shows need to stick with fishing and loving the outdoors, not religion and politics.  I think one of the few who stays on topic without acting like a clown is Babe Winkelman.

I'm not sure when I'll be able to get that theme song out of my head. Monster truck tires in the water too! Sweet! Love those old school shades! It was nice not to see a bunch of advertisements also.

Still love the good ole favorites, Bill Dance, Hank Parker and Jimmy Houston.

enjoy Jimmy and I too think hank has one of the best shows on TV but as much as I want to like him I just can not watch Bill anymore-the only one who is worse as far as far as being one continuous commercial is Roland and I quit watching him years ago--do enjoy Scott's show--he too will sell stuff and I get it that they have to but he is not as bad as Dad--JMO
