yakingfisherman Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 I've been doing really good with the 6xds lately. However, I want to try out a few other deep divers that get me within that 15-20 ft range as well. Just wanting to expand the gear a little. Any favorites or recommendations besides the 6xd? 1 Quote
Super User Goose52 Posted March 7, 2015 Super User Posted March 7, 2015 Spro Little John Bomber Fat Free Shad BD8F ...and the "sleeper baits" for that depth range, and my "go tos" - the Luhr Jensen Hot Lips Express in 1/2oz and 3/4oz: 2 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted March 7, 2015 Global Moderator Posted March 7, 2015 I'll be trying some new baits this year like the Duo 300, 8XD, and Evolve baits. The 6XD is my deep cranking staple though. Quote
Super User scaleface Posted March 7, 2015 Super User Posted March 7, 2015 At those depths I usually throw Traps . Quote
yakingfisherman Posted March 7, 2015 Author Posted March 7, 2015 Thanks guys. I was actually looking at all the lures you guys mentioned. Now I just got to go pick up a few! Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted March 8, 2015 Super User Posted March 8, 2015 My favorite deeper diving crank is a Timber Tiger DC 16. Again, this is mostly due to where I fish week in and week out, there are many sunken bushes and brush in the 10 to 18 foot range, all over the lake and all depths, really. Most cranks, you run them into a sunken thorn bush, it is gone, or at least you've got to pull out the lure retriever. Timber Tigers come through that stuff much more often than not. 2 Quote

Don't want to hijack this thread, but along these lines, has anyone tried Sebile's D&S weedless deep diver? Thx. Quote
ABW Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 I've had good luck with the ones that 6th Sense makes. 1 Quote
papajoe222 Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 Before your go out and spend good money on deep diving cranks like my personal favorite DD-22, be sure you and your equipment are up to the task. Not all rods, reels, or anglers are up to chucking these things. If not, I recommend using your favorite cranks on a BooRig. It will get smaller lipped baits down deep and is a lot easier on you and your tackle. Just a thought for you and anyone that's budget minded but knows the benefits of deep cranking. 1 Quote
War Eagle 44 Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 The 6XD & Spro Little John DD are my two favorite deep cranks at the moment. As suggested the DD22 is also a "must have" but it doesn't quite make it to 20', if I'm not mistaken I think it dives to about 17'. The Rapala DT 20 and Lucky Craft D20 are also very good plugs. bassinyea Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 Hot Lips is definitely a sleeper and a great bait. Another one is Manns 20+ and 30+. I just ordered a couple of the new EZ Manns 30+ and cant wait to fish it this summer and see how it does. 1 Quote

papajoe222 Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 please explain what a boorig is, now I'm interested haha It's made by Booyah and is similar to an umbrella rig. the difference being the only bait with a hook or hooks is attached to the long arm. the others have spinner blades. You can add any bait you like to it and fish it deep, shallow, or in-between. About the only baits I wouldn't use with them are topwaters and deep diving cranks. It affords you a lot of options and gives the look of bigger forage following a small school. I really like them for presenting small, shallow running cranks deeper in the water column. My favorite the 1/4oz. head, but I believe they come in a number of sizes. If you attach a short leader to the bait you're using I think you'll get more takers on it. 1 Quote
