Mass Bassin' Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 I have a johnny morris signature series reel and my friend has the shimano citica. I have fished with both and cant make up my mind which i like better. The morris is ALOT more sturdy feeling. The morris dosnt have more drag and they have very similar casting distances. The citica feels better in my hand and matches more rods (feeling wise not by looks). My friendwill trade if i want to trade.... should i keep the morris or trade for the citica. Quote
Brandon Moss Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 The upside to your Johnny Morris is it has the solid aluminum frame and side plates, as well as the duraluminum gears. Some will say it has more bearings, but in my opinion bearing quality is MUCH more important. In that case the Shimano gets my nod there. The other thing I wasn't crazy about with the Johnny Morris is it's weight. At the end of the day, how it feels in your hands is the most important thing, mostly when you have your prey on the end of your line. Hope this may help just a little bit. 1 Quote
cdunlapb12 Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 My Citica G is really nice, smooth as glass and powerful. Can't go wrong with any shimano reel. Also, the Citica has an aluminum frame if you're worried about durability Quote
stkbassn Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 Citica all the way. I do like Shimano but not a "fan boy" as some are called I suppose. LOL. It's easy to like Shimano, they make good quality, dependable products. My Citica E's Curado E's, Chronarch B's and E's, and now the I series Curado are all terrific reels. It may just be my limited experience or bad luck but the few Bass Pro reels I've owned, the PQ's and the JM Signature series have fell way short of my expectations based on the stellar reviews given IMHO. Not once has this happened with Shimano so far. Again, just my opinion. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 One should last as long as the other if cared for. The JM may have some features over the Citica in bearing count and braking. Neither is head and shoulders over the other mechanically speaking. You won't get burned either way. The Citica will probably be easier to unload down the road should you choose to. Quote
