Sp032o Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 Hello, I just have two quick questions... I have been deciding on a spinning rod for a while, and I think I am going to get the Berkly Lightning Rod Shock, because it isn't too expensive and I have read many good reviews. Do you think this is a good choice? Also, i'm having a lot of trouble finding a good reel. Like the rod, I would like to get something fairly cheap, $50 or below. What are some good spinning reels in this price range that will work well for bass fishing and that would go with the Lightning shock Rod? Thanks for all input. Quote
Penguino Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 Pluefger Supreme trumps all in that price range. You can find them at severe discount for 49.99$ at Gander Mountain after rebate and gift cards. Furthermore, there is a coupon code for 5$ off that is GMT5. Quote
Joedodge Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 I love the Pflueger presidents I have two. You may look at the shimmano ix2000. For a $15 reel they are actually a nice smooth reel I've had a couple over the years. It'll last a long time especially in freshwater duty. Walmart and bass pro have them on line Quote
The Next KVD Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 You can get a Bass Pro Shops Pro Qualifier spinning reel for under $50. I got one and its a nice reel. Quote
Super User Crestliner2008 Posted March 7, 2015 Super User Posted March 7, 2015 I just bought a Lightning Shock rod and put a Pflueger Trion on it. Don't know how it's going to work out obviously, but that combo is certainly in your price range. A very nice rod for the money. I would have preferred a President instead of the Trion, but I've already spent way too much to start out this season! And if this Trion reflects the Pflueger quality, I should be good to go. 1 Quote

bassin is addicting Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 Pflueger President at Gander Mountain Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted March 7, 2015 Super User Posted March 7, 2015 A Trion and/or President with a Lightning Rod Shock is a very good affordable combo. I have several. Quote
therealnutmeg Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 +1 to the Shimano IX2000, no anti-reverse or whatever it's called but for $15 can't beat em. Quote
Drew03cmc Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 Lew's SG300. 6.2:1 ratio, large spool and Lew's quality. I bought one and I like it thus far. $50 at Wally's. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted March 12, 2015 Super User Posted March 12, 2015 I'll second the trion. I have a UL about 8 years old, every bit as smooth as my supremes. Although I catch some good fish with it, it hasn't had the demands that some of my larger reels get, so this isn't a comparison. For under 50 bucks it's winner IMO. Quote
