Khan of the Res Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 Lets hear your favorite bass recipes. I usually cook mine fire side out in the woods so I just bring olive oil, salt, pepper, some butter, and once in a while ill bring green peppers and/or onions but usually I don't because people smell it and then come to my fire expecting a hot meal. I never eat more than a few bass per month and they have to be in the 15-20 inch range (too big and they taste nasty) for me to take them so i don't want to hear any catch and release whiners. I am a predator above all things. Quote
Bob C Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 Why would they taste nasty over 20"? 20 is good but 21 is not. Not buying it unless your big ones came from mud swamp. To answer your question, Drakes batter deep fried in peanut oil. Quote
Dockhead Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 If I really had a hankerin' for some freshwater fillets I'd be more likely to spend some time filling a bucket with bluegill. Better tasting to me and much better for my future angling prospects. Quote
Lacustrine Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 This recipe is awesome and you use the whole bass! http://gameandgarden.com/cooking/fish/whole-bass-with-tomatoes/. In fact all the recipes on this website are great! Quote
Bruce424 Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 I might keep a couple this year if I get any that are gut hooked or don't swim away. My girl don't like fish so it's just a meal for me. I heard fried up bass taste good. Maybe I'll give that a try. But anything fried I bet taste good!! Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted March 7, 2015 Super User Posted March 7, 2015 This post reeks of a troll post to me.....not many posts, asks about your favorite bass recipe, then calls out the C&R people as whiners, yet his profile pic he is wearing gloves to handle a fish....and of course he is a predator too lol Now back on topic for myself....i don't keep fish as i fish from a kayak and keeping fish isn't the easiest thing to do 2 Quote
Super User gardnerjigman Posted March 7, 2015 Super User Posted March 7, 2015 I prefer the 12-15" bass from a private lake I have access to. I'll take enough for a decent fish fry once or twice a year. Hot grease and Andy's fish fry. I make my own sauce too, ( old fashioned horse radish, miracle whip and ketchup. Fried fish with fried taters and onions with Mac and cheese is my little slice of heaven! 3 Quote

plumworm Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 I prefer to swim them in water instead of oil. Quote

Super User Senko lover Posted March 7, 2015 Super User Posted March 7, 2015 I don't eat bass. I don't really eat fish either. Quote
Super User everythingthatswims Posted March 7, 2015 Super User Posted March 7, 2015 Cornmeal mixed with "Natures Seasons" as a breading, dip the filets in egg, then in the breading, and fry them up. I look for fish in the 12-14" range. I catch plenty of dinks so a handful of bass that size aren't hard to come by. I don't keep bass often, if I want to eat fish you will find me skipping little grubs up under a dock to get a mess of crappies. Quote
