Penguino Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 Anybody ever use this line? It's the cheapest copolymer line I could find, and it looks decent. What's the difference between the AN-40 line and the Excalibur line? Quote
Super User Sam Posted March 6, 2015 Super User Posted March 6, 2015 I have had the AN-40 for years. Still have some left and use it for pond and fun fishing. No problems with it. Quote
Penguino Posted March 6, 2015 Author Posted March 6, 2015 I have had the AN-40 for years. Still have some left and use it for pond and fun fishing. No problems with it. How does is the stretch and the memory? What applications would it be best for? Quote
The Fisher Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 I use the AN40 on my spinning reels that don't have braid. I've used it for 4-5 years. If you go to their website they describe the difference. It casts a mile. http://www.silverthread.com/ Silver Thread Excalibur the strongest, most abrasion-resistant copolymer line on the market, period! If you're looking for a line to withstand the punishment big fish can dish out in heavy cover, this line is it. Developed by polymerizing multiple nylon monomers, Silver Thread Excalibur is stronger and more stable. Plus, its diameter is consistent throughout the entire spool. What does this mean to you? Better quality, innovative technology and the best heavy-duty fishing line available. Silver Thread AN40 was developed with the stealth approach in mind. Designed with an incredibly small diameter, this line can really cover the distance. The AN40 formula is very limp and supple, making it a favorite among fishermen. If you require long casts and low underwater visibility to get close to the fish, look no further than AN40. 1 Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted March 6, 2015 Super User Posted March 6, 2015 I used the AN40 for years, it is the best handling line I ever used and the abrasion resistance is remarkable but it has a little more stretch than the average line. I think you use Excalibur for casting situations only and while it is very strong I like Big Game better for the simple reason is has excellent abrasion resistance but it handles better than Excalibur and both have about the same amount of stretch. I love Silver Thread AN40 though and if you are fishing a drop shot or shaky head it is one of the best casting and handling lines out there and has better abrasion resistance than Trilene XL but handles just as nice. 1 Quote
Super User F14A-B Posted March 6, 2015 Super User Posted March 6, 2015 Silverthread is legit line, I just spooled some #8 on a spinning reel.. I also have some #30 in pink for leader use.. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted March 7, 2015 Super User Posted March 7, 2015 12 # strong enough to catch this 50" barracuda in about a 8-10 knot current. It's a good line but the key to landing fish is still the proper drag and letting the rod doing the work. If pure strength is an issue go with braid. 1 Quote
Super User Oregon Native Posted March 7, 2015 Super User Posted March 7, 2015 Have used for many years....good line. Like there fluro too. Quote
Tmmytomato Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 I have been a fan of Silver Thread for many, many years - long before Excalibur or AN-40. I used it when it only came in a silver/gray color. Although it's not the only line I use I have had no problems with Silver Thread of any type. Excalubur is very abrasion resisitant and AN-40 is more supple, as others have posted here. Good stuff, very good value. Quote
