cjam93 Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 Hey guys so I just recently got a HDS Touch gen 2. I am trying to download a social map of a local lake that I am going to be on this coming Saturday. Am I able to do that for free or can you only use social maps if you pay for Insight Genesis? I downloaded the map, and extracted it onto an SD card which I put in the unit, but the chart is not showing the map that I downloaded. I was not sure if it was because I am on a free Insight Genesis account of if it was because I did something wrong. Also I read on the IG website that the card should only have one at5 file on it. However the social map I downloaded came with 3 at5 files on it. They were vector large, vector medium, and vector small. What do I do with this?thanks guys! 1 Quote
crankbank Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 I think there is an option on the right menu to select which location to pull your map from. Also, you may have to upload the map from the SD card on your main menu. Check out page 27: http://www.lowrance.com/Root/Lowrance-Documents/US/HDS_GEN2_TOUCH_OM_988-13012-003_w.pdf Quote

Racerx Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 Hey man I got it working, thanks so much for the help! Hey, can you share with us how you got it working? Having the same issue with mine. In my case, the map shows up fine, when at home, but I lose it when I'm on the water. Quote
cjam93 Posted July 14, 2015 Author Posted July 14, 2015 So what did you think of the social maps? Sorry I just saw this, I love it! My home lake over the past couple of months has went from having no contour maps anywhere to almost being totally charted. I actually pulled up to a point last Saturday I had never fished before and started throwing at it with a deep crank and hooked up with two in no time, one was a 5.12. I never would have fished that point had I not had the map since I never knew it was there before! It was awesome being able to pull up to a point and know exactly how it was laid out. The maps mixed with my point one is an amazing combo. Hey, can you share with us how you got it working? Having the same issue with mine. In my case, the map shows up fine, when at home, but I lose it when I'm on the water. I hope this will help, Im not really sure why it worked for me. Anyways I scrolled over to the lake on my lowrance with the card in the depthfinder. I then zoomed in on the lake as far as the zoom would let me go. The maps suddenly loaded up and was there, haha I have no idea why that worked, but that is what I did. Hope it works out for you man. I am in love with having these maps! Quote
Racerx Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 Yeah, I'm dying to get this feature running. Your map, was it the only map on the card? The owner's manual does nothing to help you with these particular issues. I loaded a couple social maps, along with the included maps, on the same card. Wondering if THAT is the problem. Quote

Yea it is the only map I have on the card. Try to take all of them off but one and see if that one will show. You are right the manual is not very helpful at times haha. 1 Quote
snapshotmd Posted March 2, 2016 Posted March 2, 2016 I was experimenting on downloading multiple maps on the card last night and it can be done. Each time I download a map I will get about 6 files that includes; 3 map files, an *.at file, a permit file, and the contour file. I found out I would have to load all of these for each area. For the files with similar names, I would have the PC number them 1,2,3 and so on. On my Elite 7 HDI, only the downloaded maps would display on my chart; the base map is gone. This is kinda annoying since I can't keep the card in the unit and go speeding off to a different body of water. Quote
eddallen Posted March 2, 2016 Posted March 2, 2016 If you would like to down load multiple lakes on a single SD card, just create a new folder for each lake. ie: Create a folder on the SD card and name it Whiskey Lake. Now when you down load the Whiskey Lake social map, D/L it to the Whiskey Lake folder. When you get the boat on Whiskey Lake and turn ON the HDS, you can select that lake from the drop down menu. I limit the number of lakes to 5 for each card, but I don't think there is any maximum as long as your file size does not exceed the SD card size. Quote
