I sold mine to a Tournament angler that didn't have time to wait for a new build. I'll post when I get a new one done. It will likely be XH/Mod-F, spiral wrapped, Carbon Fiber grip, with a Gen 2 STX mounted.

I have always been pretty good with many techniques but this year I plan on doing a bit more focus on flippin/punching. Not that im bad with it, just want to better myself. As of now my setup is an Abu Garcia Villian 7'1" MH/F, quantum code 7:1 with 50lb sufix braid. I was planning on purchasing a new reel but spent too much money on other gear, I bought that reel 5 years ago or so and some how its still beasting lol.

i have a 7'6"MH *** black with a lew's bb1 7:1 that i use primarily for frogging, but doubles as the punching/heavy flipping setup

The 7'11" Black *** is very nice....have one paired with an EXO 100.  But primary punch rod I use is a 7'11"  Quantum Tour Tactical with the *** 8:1. Prefe the moderate action of the Quantum for heavier punching needs, but both will work, just two different actions.  The 7'6"MH *** is a great flipping/ligher punch rod as well.

I'm really liking my veritas 7'11" with my old blue quantum pro tour 7.1:1 on it.

Solid.

I can't say anything about best as I haven't used em all but the best one for me has been a Dobyns Extreme 795dx with a Tatula Type R 8.0:1 with 70 lb samurai braid.  I felt unstoppable with this setup.  Helped us to catch the following:

I've got a Powell endurance 764 and I was really leaning towards the Type R. I think I'll have to pull the trigger on that one!

I have 4 flipping sticks at the moment, 1 Loomis, 1 Crucial, 1 Falcon Expert, and 1 Powell Max. I've fished the Powell the most by a wide margin. It's the 7105 with a Citica E spooled with 65# braid. I know this isn't the most expensive set up but it just flat out works. I love the moderate action of this blank because it really has helped me hook more fish while punching. The Loomis GLX rod I have is a nicer stick for sure but it's action is much stiffer and I have missed a few fish while punching with this rod. I just have to be mindful of which rod I'm using and then I have no problems with the GLX. Both rods offer more than enough "power" for the heaviest mat fishing but the Loomis definitely has more.

The Falcon is a really good little flipping rod as well, I've used it a lot over the years and love it. It doesn't have quite the same amount of power as either of the other two rods but it more than makes up for that with it's super light weight and great sensitivity. I can't really put into words how this rod fishes to me but I can say that I will be absolutely crushed if/when something finally happens to it.

As long as the reel is comfortable in your hand it is an awesome reel! I know some people who have tried it and it is just not comfortable for them. Try it in a store and if it is comfortable I say go for it!

I have a Skeet Reese Flippin rod and a Lew's Superduty 8.1:1. It's alright, plan on upgrading to a Dobyn's Champion sometime in the summer/fall.

I have the Dobyn's you mentioned. Just my opinion, but you may want to test drive it first.

Which model did you plan on getting?

None of my local shops sell Dobyns, I just have a club discount. What do you have to say about it?

I'm debating between a D736 and a D766. Leaning towards the D766.
