Hey guys,

I am trying my hand at cleaning and lubricating my reels and I am having trouble with one in particular.  It is an older browning midas, Model number MI1000HL.  I can't get the handle off and I also can't get the spool out.  I got the side plate off and the spool comes out a little but not all the way.  There is also no nut or cover or anything on the handle loke other reels.  here is a picture of the model I am working with.

Any help would be appreciated, Thanks!

Don't attempt to open a reel without a schematic first off. Not sure what's hanging up the spool but don't force it. If there are no screws on the back side of the handle tighten down the drag star and see if there's a spring loaded plate under the handle. If so depress the plate and spin the handle in reverse at the same time and the handle will unscrew from the shaft. This may not be the ideal model to wet your feet on.

haha yeah probably not.  I did successfully disassemble, lube and reassemble my other 3 reels (2 quantums and a pinnacle).

Thanks for the advice. I will look into it.

I haven't had a chance to look at the browning reel again but the other 3 all had a nut and a cap over the nut on the handle.

I tightened down the drag star as tight as i could and I am not seeing any plate to press down... maybe I am just not meant to clean this one haha

You don't see two small screws in the back side of the handle either? They may be obstructed by the drag star but there's got to be something. Either way, I wouldn't go too far without the schematic. You'll have to get one from BPS's Outdoor World service center. The only one's online are the pre BPS original Brownings. That will answer all the questions.

Yeah i don't see any screws or accessible plates.. I will try to find the schematic and go from there.
