Fuese54 Posted March 5, 2015 Posted March 5, 2015 when is the best time for white spinnerbaits or soft plastics? (weather, water clarity) Quote
ripinit Posted March 5, 2015 Posted March 5, 2015 Anytime. I know guys that only use a spinnerbait, and they catch fish all year. If I'm covering water to find fish, a white Spinner is good in stained or clear water, will go to a chartreuse skirt if its really stained or muddy. If I'm targeting specific targets, and the fish are tight to cover, or not chasing....go to plastics...Just a general approach. Quote
Heron Posted March 5, 2015 Posted March 5, 2015 x2 - All year. All clarity. All times of day White skirted spinnerbaits have caught me fish in clear water with high sun in late morning, and also in stained water at dusk, after sunset. Quote
Weld's Largemouth Posted March 5, 2015 Posted March 5, 2015 white/chartreuse spinnerbaits all day everyday Same thing goes with white plastics usually too. They just flat out work. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted March 6, 2015 Super User Posted March 6, 2015 Year round gets my vote too. Quote
AllTerrainAngler Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 I like white hardbaits and flukes. I never have luck on much else in white where i live Quote
papajoe222 Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 White or pearl colored baits work all year around here and I often wondered why no one ever uses a whie jig. I can't even find them at my local shops most of the time. They're a killer alternative to spinnerbaits in the spring and more so in the fall. Quote
bassinyea Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 I think it has a lot to do with what type of forage you are trying to imitate with a jig. White spinnerbait or a fluke obviously you are imitating a shad or other baitfish where as with a jig you are more times than not imitating a crawfish which isnt white. One exception would be swim jigs and a lot of them have white and shad colors available. That being said, I have a friend who fishes a white jig crawled on the bottom like a crawfish and catches fish on that. I do know that color can matter to a point but ever wonder if maybe all these different colors mattered more to us as fisherman than they actually do to the fish? I sometimes think that an aggressive bass could care less what the color is they decide to either eat it or not to eat it. Quote
AQUA VELVA Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 Case in point, look at all those fancy paint jobs on the top of a lot of topwater lures. Bass never see any of that, all they see is the outline of something with a light colored belly. Quote
frogflogger Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 White senkos fished on top of lily pads and grass - let it settle in holes, most strikes come when it is near or on the surface. Quote
Super User Grizzn N Bassin Posted March 9, 2015 Super User Posted March 9, 2015 Pretty much any time , but if you don't have confidence in that color producing you, won't have much luck. Last year i was using a baby spook all white, during a new, moon couldn't keep em off. Quote
