I'm lookin for a good combo to throw mainly dt6s, dt10s, and possibly squarebills as a bonus. I'd like to keep it under $200 since I'm saving up for a kayak. I have my eye on the H2O ethos 7'mm and was thinking I could throw an orra winch on it and have a nice setup. Any opinions or suggestions?

I'd go with a 7'MH Moderate or Mod fast. You could probably find a pretty good one cheap on eBay for 50-60. Pair it up with a Curado I for 140 on ebay in 5.5:1 if you plan on throwing those dt10's a lot.

The DT 10 and other ~10 ft diving cranks is a bout the cut off where you need to step up the rod to MH and lower the gear ratio down. Smaller, shallower divers can be fished on the M with any gear ratio.

Would a mh handle the dt6 and squarebills alright? Should I be looking for a "lighter" medium heavy (or conversely a "heavier" medium)?

Everything you mentioned except for the DT 10 would be right in the wheelhouse for a medium powered rod. You could still get away with using a medium powered rod, but it might feel a little overpowered for casting DT 10s. I personally rarely fish crankbaits that weigh less than 3/8 oz, and I fish a lot of cranks that weigh 1/2-5/8 oz, so I stick with a MH. If you are going to be fishing with cranks 3/8 oz, I'd stick with a medium. If you are going to be fishing cranks within the 3/8 -5/8 oz range, I'd get a MH or a rod rated 3/8-1 oz.

Look at Lew's Dave Fritts cranking rod, MH with Shimano Cardiff 200.

Reels : lews bb1, bb1 pro, lfs ss, just about any Lews reel. H2o Xpress mettle.

Rods : *** blacks.. BPS Crankin stick if you want glass. And the other suggestions are good as well.

I have the H20 "Composite Cranker". It's been a great rod for squarebills through mid range baits like a wart, 3XD, or DT6.

I stumbled upon the orra winch combo, $109 at Wally World. The rod is rated for 3/8-3/4. This is looking like it may be the way to go.

I have this rod with a REVO SX. It works fine for the baits you mentioned. It has made a good jerk bait combo as well. The H2O rods just went on sale.

Cabelas has Lew's Tournament Speed Spools on sale for $120 and a Tournament ZX rod (crankbait) for $70. Gets you out for $190. Use the remaining $10 for some line.

The ZX crankbait rod is rated for up to 5/8oz but I throw 3/4oz flat side Pork Chop squarebills and 10ft depth Grave Diggers on it just fine. Seems like a 3/5oz dt10 would work ok.
