hoosierhawghunter Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 Ok I'll start out by saying i know some of my setups are wrong and could be improved... but i blew through my budget for rods and reels already. So id like some suggestions on how to get the most out of what i have... Now mind you this is for spring. I have a 5.3:1 smoke 150 with 10# floro on a 7'm cranking duckett micro magic pro for my jerkbait rod and it will eventually be my cranking setup. But i have a kvd jerkbait tied on it right now... A new curado xship in 6.4:1 with 15lb floro on a 7'6" micro magic pro cranking rod. Im going to be throwing lipless cranks with this rod. Primarily because i messed up bigtime and bought a cranking rod when i meant to buy a fast action rod... I have a smoke 7.3:1 with 17lb vicious floro on a 7' mh bps extreme rod for jigs and plastics. And a abu black max 6.4:1 with 12lb floro with a 7'mh just for whatever i feel like throwing with it... If you guys have any questions just ask since im sure i left something out. But i want suggestions on if i should change reels around or what have ya... Tight lines! Quote
Dylcook91 Posted March 5, 2015 Posted March 5, 2015 The only thing I would do is put one of the faster reels(6.4:1,7.3:1) on the rod you use for jerkbaits so you can take the slack line up faster between twitches. Other then that your set ups look fine to me, I don't ever use different rods for jerks/cranks, I just make sure I use a parabolic rod for things with trebles. Then again, that style of fishing isn't my strong suit. Quote
Suspendingjerk Posted March 5, 2015 Posted March 5, 2015 Sounds like you will have two cranking rods.... Maybe you can use one of your cranking rods for spinner baits.. Quote
hoosierhawghunter Posted March 5, 2015 Author Posted March 5, 2015 I would. BUT i haven't even thrown a spinnerbait in about 15 years... i just have no luck with them. I tend to stick with chatterbait style lures. And the water wont be warm enough for awhile. Quote
Suspendingjerk Posted March 5, 2015 Posted March 5, 2015 I've personally had my best luck with spinnerbaits on windy days. Maybe you should re visit them this year. Quote
hoosierhawghunter Posted March 5, 2015 Author Posted March 5, 2015 May try that. I know im slacking on high speed reels. I only have 1 7.3:1 i want at least 1 more on another duckett rod. I have the slow smoke up for trade to get a high speed reel. But no luck quite yet. Casted a few times the yard to tune it in. Thats it lol. Quote
