Super User smalljaw67 Posted March 5, 2015 Super User Posted March 5, 2015 The only problem is i thought i had a little more cash when i made this post, dont really have the money to spend an extra 60$ but ive reasearched the president and it seems like a great reel and all of you guys are giving 100% positive feedback on it seems great wish i had the $ though. thats why im looking into to the shimano sienna, has a lot of great feedback on bass pro and cabelas, and great reviews on the internet. i think im going to go with that reel. once i can do a few odd jobs over the summer i will defintely purchase the president. Save your money until you can get something decent and the $30 Sienna isn't it. I have first hand knowledge with those, and from a bad experience years ago I said I'd never buy another Shimano but seeing I had a need for a decent spinning reel for my Grandson, I was looking hard at the Sienna until my friend's brother, who is a manager at our local Cabelas, told me they had so many returned that the store stopped carrying that reel so you have to get one on-line or another store. The gears were ok, bail springs and bearing gave up fast and he told me if you saw how thin the bail spring is you wonder how it manages being used for more than a trip or two but most people who buy that reel are worm dunkers, if you plan to cast and retrieve a lot then find another route or save some more money and get a reel that will last you. gunsndrums1 Posted March 5, 2015 Author Posted March 5, 2015 Another competitor to the sienna is the trion, noticed it can hold more line, has more ball bearings, higher max drag, while only sacrificing a little more weight ( which I don't really care about) and only 10$ more. I think I'm going to buy the trion as it seems like it is a price point version of the president with the same quality engineering. It has great reviews on the internet and a few people on the forums have recommended it. I think I made a good choice. Thoughts? Quote
Penguino Posted March 5, 2015 Posted March 5, 2015 Just get the Supreme MGX. You essentially get it for 49.99$ at gander mountain, which is the same price as the trion. It is a huge step above the trion. Quote
0119 Posted March 5, 2015 Posted March 5, 2015 To me "Bang for the Buck" means durability. Cheap doesn't last long usually and throw away disposable doesn't bang my buck. A company that isnt going to obsolete my purchase quickly and will have parts when I want them means everything. The Penn Battle II is a great idea. Proven and it has a thicker double anodizing finish similar to what Solitude and Abel does to with expensive fly reels. Penn states they promise to keep parts available for at least 15 years after its discontinued. That makes your Buck Bang a lot longer than any other manufacturer out there. Quote
Super User lmbfisherman Posted March 5, 2015 Super User Posted March 5, 2015 I owned a Sienna and it was a workhorse not a single problem. Decent starter reel. Quote
San Dimas Posted March 5, 2015 Posted March 5, 2015 I have 2 Plfueger GX 7's. They have worked really well. Quote

Starchalopakis Posted March 5, 2015 Posted March 5, 2015 I too was looking to pick up an inexpensive reliable spinning reel, and ended up ordering the President for $45 shipped new on ebay. From what I hear sounds like it will be a good reel! Quote

Super User smalljaw67 Posted March 6, 2015 Super User Posted March 6, 2015 That is commendable!!!!!! If they had a forum member of the month you'd win hands down!!!! Talk about getting the youth involved, follow Bassin is addicting's lead and future will be fine, very nice thing you did and while you may not think it is, that young man will remember it and will no doubt help someone else and it will create a string of good deeds for years to come, well done sir, well done!!!!! 1 Quote

MrBigFishSC Posted August 1, 2015 Posted August 1, 2015 Shimano makes the best spinning reels IMO. The Symetre is a great reel for $100. The Sahara is a good reel for $80 have both and no complaints. Also have 2 Pfluegers that work well but I would buy Shimano. Quote

hatrix Posted August 2, 2015 Posted August 2, 2015 Really thete should be something on here stickied. If someone wants a good spinning reel at a good price it's always a president. That's is like maybe the only thing almost everyone on here is in agreement about Even just a list of quality rods and teels both casting and spinning pinned somewhere would be amazing. Quote

greentrout Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 I use a Mitchell 300x and 300x Gold spinning. Landed many a largemouth with 'em. Go back over ten years. My father put a Mitchell in my hands as a young man. Consider: Mitchell. The Old School Basser... Quote
