I've got an Abu 5600 BCX, barely used that I'd sell for $35 shipped. I bought it to use for my smaller swimbait rod but I found another reel in storage that does it better so I have no use for it anymore. Barely a mark on it as it's only been in the boat twice and caught 1 fish.

Your looking for gold.  I have 2 2500's and a 1500 mint w/boxes that I fish all the time.  I'd never get rid of them and also search for more.  Ebay really is your only real choice other than searching estate sales and auctions.  I suppose you know about Mr. Ambassadeur since you mention purple sideplates which are custom done.  I search ebay daily, you might also try traderzip which will include some estate auctions.  Good luck.....

I have five of these reels in various sizes.  I got them when I bought several rods from a guy and have never used them.  I'll post pics this weekend with the corresponding information.  I've actually been wanting to post them for sale for a while, I just never got around to it.

Actually, I found a post in which I asked questions about them last year.  Here's what I have:

Reels:

AG 4600-CL3
AG 4600-C
AG 5500-C3
AG 6500-C3
AG 6500-C3

Now that I look, I see they're not in your size range.

Yup, to big for me... somebody will want them... i found a 1600c on a japanese auction site and let it slip away... i hear these are almost impossible to find.... ive been watchin a few of the 1500c and 2500C over on the bay... there always seems to be several 2500c reels on there..

Yes the 1600/2600 are very rare. left handers are even more coveted by everyone except Americans apparently.  Shipping will kill you from Australia and Asia.  Ive had luck with Japan but am very fearful of many of the sellers from Taiwan.  The Aussie's are great to deal with.  I try to wait until a couple regular sellers from the US offer one such as Mr. Ambassadeur.  Also google Don Iovino and check out the prices he offers on his site, very competitive and they are supertuned by a celebrity.

You might be able to find a Abu Garcia 3600 EON that might fit your needs.  They are maintainable as parts are still stocked.

Don Iovino has supertuned versions for sale on his site.  A 1500 for just $200, a great price but with original very tiny pearl knobs....  The Aussies put up a lot of 2500 and 1500 s on ebay in colors that make me drool but for premium $ plus shipping across the world yikes!

If all else fails, you could your own reel. Not the cheapest way to go, but it's worth the effort.

I have a mint condition ABU 2500c fishing reel.  It still has the leather case, owners manual, spare parts bottle, and oil container.  I don't think it has ever been used.  Do you know what something like this is worth?  Thanks.

I have an Iovino 2500C in silver that he built me over the summer and it's an awesome reel.  Plus he is an awesome guy to deal with.  Try him out for a true classic Ambassadeur!

You might want to look at the Black Max 1600-2600 Series reels.  Great little reels to fish with at a fraction of the cost of a 1500-2500C Series reel

How much are 1500C reels going for now?  I have been looking for one recently...$200 for a nice one is that an okay price?  Thanks!

I have been collecting Abu reels lately.  Picked up a some rare colored 5500 reels, have some Iovino reels I had made, and nabbed a 1500C.

I remember when the 2500C came out.  They were great reels and we loved them.  We were fishing Okeechobee and loaded them with 20 pound test.  We quickly discovered if you hammer down the drag like you would a 5500C, the nylon gears would strip.  They didn't last long down south.
